Has anyone been checked this year?
-
Negative. And I have not heard of anyone getting checked. 5hrug

I have never been checked although I always have a copy with me.
-
Nope, but I did get a phone call because I hold an HMS permit. They asked questions about what species I was catching and how often I targeted those fish.
-
Nope, always have my card. Although I did have a NOAA 3rd party contractor ask to check my catch and a few other questions. t^

It is not just NJ you have to worry about. With the fluke regs being the same this year as NY, more people are fishing in NY waters and you need to be registered there also. It is also free but was a pain to do on their website as they want more info than NJ asked for and you need to create an account. NY is good for one year from the day you registered versus NJ doing Jan to Dec. I read that when there was that great fluke bite a couple of weeks ago at the Atlantic Reef off LI that a lot of boats from NJ were boarded to check to see if they were registered to fish in NY waters. Less fishing opportunities and keepers, but more BS laws to do it. rgmn

not this year Dan. My opportunities have been severely limited however.
We were boarded a few yrs. back in RB by NYDEP and was asked for it, only time ever.
I did cross paths with a rent-a-ranger checking last year, SH bayside, out by the battery south of Officer's Row. I was hiking not fishing at the time. When I asked him about it, he said he was just issuing verbal warnings to ensure all those he spoke with were aware of the registry requirements. No tickets.
Not sure if that's the unwritten rule tho. It just was that day.

Ive never been checked either. My wife and me fish the shore so it may not be as critical.
IMO it's just another was of getting fisherman prepared for licensing in salt water. I would love to know the statistics of fish caught by anglers as apposed to commercial fisheries.
I'm not trying to bash commercial fishing, just wondering who has the largest impact on the water ovrbt

CO met us at the dock once during the spring bass run. Checked our boxes, asked for our cards, asked how the fishing was, then peaced out.
