I have this real and need to get some information on how I can take it apart and do some additional maintenance on the spool, also there is a pin on the handle side that I can pull out about 1/4" I believe it is a release to allow me to change the spool,But I can not rotate the side plate it seams to be frozen. Here are some pictures. Second picture shows the side plate and the pin that I mentioned, it's spring loaded so it snaps back in place when you release it.
Please note that I have tried everything that I know to search for information and schematics on the net but couldn't find anything that would help me take it apart.

Ive done everything I can to get this side plate to move without forcing it till it brakes,so I disassembled the click side of the reel and removed the spool to clean it up as best I could. Just wish I could have freed the other side,I didn't want to get into taking gears apart on the business side of the reel without some sort of schematics. I love to tinker with older equipment but not stinker if ya know what I mean.

I have bins and bins of extra parts that the manufacturers put in for no reason.
When I get it all reassembled I just toss all those extra parts right into the bins. No need for schematics!! chrz rofla
Sorry can't help, good luck

Eddie: I got your e-mail and used that link for a download of the schematics but it's tough to read. It shows the parts which is some help, but I need to know how the bakelite portion of the handle side works.
There is a pin on that side that you can retract and there are two sets of marks on the Side plate indicating that it can be rotated about a 1/4" but I'm unable to do that because it's froze tight..or that is what I'm thinking. The schematic I downloaded only shows the parts nothing else. The reel works fine otherwise I'm just curious on how it works and why.

Thanks Al Ill give them a try. I looked briefly at the site yesterday, looks like the one guy does nothing but reels. Think Ill give him an ask.

Al: I went on the Alan Tani site and finally got some good advice today, actually there is lots of good information on there for reels. Anyway I got the reel apart with a belt wrench and was able to clean it up and get it working just fine. Some pictures.
That side plate was tighter then a clams azz.

I have some slight pitting on the spool but it is cleaning up nicely. It was a bear to get separated, those pictures are just after I got it done.
Sandy!! My Daughter and her husband lived in Belford and took a big loss when selling there home this spring, that's after fixing everything. Frigging Congressman Smith talked a lot of s@$%T about FEMA and how they are helping..didn't help my Daughter with her home. They are now living in Atlanta GA. I hope you had better results.
