Another Wintry Weather weekend, however water conditions will see some “green.” Wintry precipitation and/or rain is likely all day Saturday and Sunday during the day. Western and Northern parts of the state will see mostly snow with a wintry mix and even freezing rain. Areas south and west of roughly the I-95 Corridor will see a wintry mix becoming all rain at times. With highs above freezing at times on Saturday and Sunday, precipitation could change back and forth. Areas north and west of the I-95 Corridor will see anywhere from under an inch to 4-6 inches in Northwestern NJ. Areas in Northern and Northwestern NJ could see accumulation of ice, however most of the state could see icing and freezing rain at some point. The bulk of the precipitation will move out later on Sunday and by Sunday Night with some lingering showers remaining. Highs will range from the upper 20’s to low 40’s with overnight lows in the teens to 20’s. Water conditions will be mixed by location. Saturday will start off good deteriorating to cautious to hazardous for the rest of the weekend. Some areas could have pockets of good conditions, however overall conditions will be poor. Strong westerly winds have caused blow out tide conditions around the Delaware and other rivers and bays. Surf and beach conditions will be good to ok. Surf could be rougher and higher up to 6 feet at times. Water temperatures are steady. UV Index will be Low to Moderate at 0-3/15.

High pressure over the Ohio Valley builds into the region through Friday. Low pressure over the Lower Mississippi Valley will move into the St. Lawrence Valley on Saturday and Sunday, leading to a strong cold frontal passage late Sunday. An Arctic Cold frontal passage will occur on late Monday. Low pressure may develop just offshore during Tuesday and Wednesday.

Next week starts off dry and still cold. Precipitation chances move in for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Things will clear out for Thursday and Friday again. Highs will range from the teens to 30’s with lows in from the negatives to 20’s. Water, surf and beach conditions look to be cautious to hazardous every day except Tuesday and possibly Friday.

Have a great weekend and thanks for reading!

Title: Re: Friday Snow Update for Saturday & Sunday
Post by: Pfishingruven on February 20, 2015, 10:28:39 PM
Snowfall totals for Saturday have gone up some. It still looks like a mix and even rain at some point, likely night, for areas south and east of the I-95 Corridor. Sunday looks like more of a rain event for *most of the state, as temperatures rise to the low 40's.

Here are updated graphics and an updated briefing.

Be safe!

More snow than forecast for much of the state. Change of track and intensity. Models were calling for nothing really south and east of I95 Corridor. Clearly  the models were wrong...which they have been most of the winter.

Be safe !
