Just saw this on Facebook:
"It is with great sadness that I am typing this. 25+ years ago my dad had a dream. That dream was to open reel life. He did it! He did it on his own. He started out at 2505 bridge ave. point pleasant nj on Memorial Day weekend 1989. There were no employees just him. With in four years he purchased a building just two blocks to the west at 2621 bridge Ave where reel life is today. Since 1993 he not only moved his store but made that property his life! Reel life at one time was the busiest most successful fishing tackle store in the country. Open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Do you know why. Well Rich used to say because the fish don't know what time it is..... Bottom line is that reel life is his life! A lot has happened to him and his family in over the last 25 years. Good and bad. But the one thing remains constant to Rich and me and my mom, my sister, and my children. We are for ever grateful to our loyal customers. THANK YOU ALL! Reel Life Bait and Tackle is now in the past. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for making my dad's dream come true. With out all of you there would have never been "REEL LIFE". Thank you DAD for everything. I am for ever grateful to you and MOM! Love always BP

Wow, that was a pretty busy store. Carried lots of inventory. Sad how the 'economy' is shutting these places down.

That sucks thd! One of the bigger and better stores in Northern Ocean County. A shame nosmly.

So sad to hear ...
This is just a continuing of the overall contraction that we are seeing in the fishing biz ...
Less and less boats and shops around ... Such a shame ....

was that the place with the red awning? It says on there that they'll be at the show this weekend.

Is it because business is that bad or is there another reason? Will the store be for sale? Certainly is a shame for that to happen after a person dedicates there life to it. To many of the old mom and pop businesses have disappeared over the years only to be replaced by chain stores with employees that couldn't care less about your patronage, or having any knowledge about the products. nosmly Shure is sad!!

Gonna miss them. That was my shop of choice when fishing the canal.
Sad to see another small business go away.

Just spoke to one of the employees today. He didn't even know it was closing until it happened.

Doesn't make much sense, just closing the doors like that on what seamed to be a successful business. Do you know if they are trying to sell the business? What is going on with the inventory?

I know they were blowing out some inventory just before they closed. The store windows are papered up now. Not sure what's left.

Damn shame, that was a great shop. Can only guess the reasons such as government fishing regulations, public access issues, aftermath of Sandy, online retailers, who knows but it sucks.

Places like Cabala,Bass Pro,Dicks and others have put a hurt on a lot of small business such as these.
In the end the Cabala and Bass Pro shops may save you a few cents, but there is no personal touch or service like the old shops had. You see that today with the Home Depot stores lots of crap with no knowledgeable service....half the time they don't have what you need anyway. Loews isn't any better!

Sad to hear another Mom and Pop goes out.
I wish them well and thank them for their dedication to the fishing industry.
