Post by: DeepcastMike on April 14, 2015, 03:19:46 PM
Hey all dumb question..... for live bait surf fishing I use 10' poles to get a long cast... I was wonder say for lures and trolling should I switch to a 7" pole? suggestions?

From a boat a 7' rod is generally a good overall size.

I used to use a 9' stick for throwing plugs and metals on the surf. But that was thirty years ago, not sure what the sharpies are using now.  TT^

I typically use a 9ft rod for plugs.  Occasionally a 7ft, but that more for fluke.  I also have a 10ft6in for throwing bigger plugs and snags.
But in general, a 9ft 1/2-3oz rod is what I use.

Doesn't sound like things have changed much.  TT^
