Hello everyone I'm new to these forums and looking to get some advice. i have been freshwater fishing on my kayak for a few years now and want to take it out for some fluke with a few buddies. I have experience fluke fishing from a boat but in the ocean. I am having trouble trying to find a location to take my kayak in to get some fluke action. maybe somewhere without huge waves lol. i read about sandy hook bay but i looked at the map and i have trouble finding an area i should focus on. i live in north jersey so everything is pretty much an hour and fifteen minute ride away. any advice would be great thanks!

Welcome Aboard Brandon,
I can only go by my own experiences. I live in Toms River and have fished here for close to 60 years now. Behind Island Beach State Park is a calm and safe place to fish and get use to the area. Put in across from parking area A21. You can drive down the canoe launch trail with your car but you will have to park it in the lot. Head north to deeper water and jig around the sedge islands as there are some nice cuts right up against them.
Happy Catching

Welcome aboard Brandon,
I also live north Jersey, a little longer for me to get to water but worth it.
if you go to sandy hook on the main road in there is a parking lot in the middle, fills up quick, that is horeshoe cove great fishing there, a lot of deep water and nice fluke fishing.
if you go Belford area there is a channel over there, nice not to bad with boat traffic on weekends.
if you go to rumson area fish the oceanic bridge that is a bit tricky a lot of big boats but if you stay to the side it is not that bad.
also if you go out of Leonardo that is another great place if you have the time look on google earth that is the best tool a kayaker can use to locate new locations to launch from.
best of luck and be safe.

Hi Branden, I also live in north Jersey.
A good place to fish is in Raritan Bay.
Access is next to the Spy House in Port Monmouth.
Flukeing is pretty good on white gulp tipped jigs or killies.
Good luck.

I Live not to far from Sandy Hook, and would say Horseshoe cove is a very nice area. Check tide tables though, the current through there rips. Might want to invest in a sea anchor, and a anchor if you can.

thanks for the advice guys!. So i ended up going to sandy hook and fishing horshoe crab cove from 7-11am but unfortunately not a sniff. i was probably between 3/4 and a mile out. fishing near some party boats within 100 yards. worked some buck tails with gulp and some squid and spearing but no takers. I'm determined to catch a few here though ill be going back next weekend
