Wednesday started clamming at roamer with fresh clams. One 30" bass immediately. Nothing the rest of the day despite several moves. Thursday, tried Roamer first thing again behind some clammers and nothing again, moved around alot with no success. Moved to edge of Ambrose over a nice drop and found a 36" bass on bunker. Had several blues mixed in with them. Also, some smaller bass. Friday, I went out with no bait intending on working for the fish. Had immediate success near the Verrezzano. Jigged countless bass for about 1 hour. 1 28" bass kept. 1 30 something bass lost at the boat when my leader snapped(probably chafed from the blues the previous day). Moved around looking for the birds and found some near fire island inlet around 1pm. Fished that school for the next 3 hours. Landed well over 50 bass all at 26". I bounced bucktails till my arm fell off and couldn't get anything bigger but it was so much fun. Definitely the best day of bassing this fall. All on light tackle. I tried trolling bunker spoons with no success near the Verrazano and also tried stretchs to get the bigger ones to bite but ended up with 26" again. Left them biting. Thousands of birds. All eating peanuts. I will be going out tomorrow and post when I get back. Water temp was 56 deg. Birds were working on the outgoing tide.
