Had a blackfish charter on the SeaHawk from Perth Amboy today.
Weather cooperated for the most part and we loaded on the boat early, sailing at 6am. TT^
First drop was the most productive overall. Some keepers were coming up with shorts mixed in and looked like it was going to be a good day. I put a keeper over the rail and went for another. Got crushed and broke off a fish. Spot we were fishing, a few of us in the bow had an old anchor line or something that we'd snag often so made working this piece a bit difficult.
Rerigged quickly and went back down with a nice small whole greenie. Was soon crushed and knew I hooked a good fish. Thing would not move from the bottom and was hammering away. Soon convinced the fish to move a bit and began working him up from the depths. Nice silhouette of a fish so called for the net. After a dive or two it was in and over the rail. Figured 9lbs maybe, but at the end of the day, even with it's throat cut, was good for the pool at 10lbs even ;D
High hook at 5 keepers, a few had 3-4, most 1-2, and a couple managed none. SOme did put some jumbo porgies and keeper seabass in to the boat.
A great trip with all the laughs, food, and good company. Catching could have been better, but a great day none the less. Capt and mate Rob worked hard for our charter and looking forward to fishing with them again. t^

Nice Report Gottog, Where did you ever get so lucky to find a girl that will fish in cold conditions? By chance does her father own a tackle shop TT^ Thanks for the report and pictures.
-
Good report, great pics. t^

Found her on a Black-Friday fishing trip for tog a few years ago ;D
Her dad doesn't fare well on a baot even in the summer in the bay ;)
Group of guys onboard made it a great day. Lots of laughs and great eats too TT^

Nice!!

Looks like a great time was had by all. I love the smiles and the amount of fish caught. Good report as well as pictures.
Thanks
Paul

Was a slow day actually. Very frustrating, scratchy bite. Tog'n in the NY Bight area makes you humble. Not many drop-n-stick suicidal tog days like often seen in Cape Ma or Delaware area. bngh

Anybody planning to go on the Seahawk's 7AM trip on Wednesday, November 21? I'd like to go, but I wonder if there will be enough people for the boat to go.
-
Welcome Aboard sternline,
I can't help you there but I am sure there will be feedback shortly.
Thanks for posting and a few more posts and more forums will open up to you to enjay and make use of.
Again Welcome Aboard.

Sternline, all they need is about 8 fares to sail and captain is confident they'll have that atleast.
They went out on sunday and got beat up a bit, but managed some tog up to 8 lbs.
They're out now on a bass trip and have a 25# fish with other keepers already and said there are loads of bass around the boat. TT^
-
Thanks, Gottog. I'll definitely go tomorrow (the 21st).
-
Heya Sternline!. Welcome to the site t^ chrz

Welcome to the site sternline. Don't forget to post a report of your trip tomorrow. TT^

Seahawk on the ll/21. Action was pretty slow, but some people did very well with blackfish. There were some nice size porgies. Captain Mike tried hard, and the boat has a good atmosphere. I would definitely go on the Seahawk again.
-
Nice fish gottog! Hopefully we'll be catching on the 16th.... t^
Thanks for the TTTT help for the tog newbs...

Does the SeaHawk have a web site yet? And is anyone planning to go on Friday, November 30?

Hey Rod, you up for a trip Friday? Or anyone else for that matter?
-
Let me check my work schedule. dang. it's just a white piece of paper ???. SURE!!. let me ask the Wife and see if she made any plans for me ;D
-
I'm heading our Friday. Don't know where or what boat yet! Suggestions?
-
What did you want to fish for?
For tog out of Belmar, I hear the Mohawk is the boat to be on. Down south, Captain Robbins in Sea Isle City. Slow and old boat but the captain puts you on the fish.
I don't know what striper boats would be good as I have no experience on party boats for stripers. From the reports I have read, pretty much any one of them, if you are to believe the reports.
It looks like there will be three of us from this site on the Mohawk Friday. Leaves the dock at 7am, returns at 3pm for anyone interested.
-
Mohawk leaves with a set amount of fares and usually loads up/leaves earlier than 7am. They get "railed" as it is the boat to go on for tog in Belmar. Other options there of course and most are very good as well.
I hate month end business...have to work late nevermind take the day off :'(
I might get out on saturday if I'm not car/truck shopping bngh
Might be time to head over to Brooklyn and visit some buddies ;D
-
It blackfish season. forget about those stinkin bass. Been on the Mohawk many many times. See ya all there whoever is going.

Went on the SeaHawk November 30. Captain Mike took us to the fish. Good blackfishing and some nice size ling.
On the way back, we saw birds in Raritan Bay. Even though we had stayed out a little extra time, Mike stopped so we could jig for stripers. Very few captains would do that. Unfortunately, some idiot drove his boat right into the middle of the action just as we were ready for our first casts. Needless to say, that was the end of that.
I plan to go on the SeaHawk as often as I can from now on.
-
Nice.
-
Dang idiots...Don't ya hate it when they do that.
BTW there is an article in "The Fisherman", about that subject.
Happy Catching

Heard saturday was pretty decent on the SeaHawk. I couldn't get out but got live updates. One regular had his limit by 10:30 and seemed the fish averaged out to be 5 keepers per man with some ling mixed in.
Sunday they had a much tougher time and slower bite.
-
Nice, I hope we have the same results on the 16th. TT^
