All that is needed it to install the Radar..

I waxed before I covered it and will do so again when I open it..

I got the Garmin HD.. hoping its a good unit

It is a good unit. It is what I am running with 7610. It WON'T help you find more crabs though.

it can help me find my crab buoys at night.. lol.. and the inlets.. hopefully working birds off shore..

Depending on the unit it is attached to there is an auto bird mode on the radar. I don;t think the GMR 18HD supports it but, I am sure if you do some online research you can find what settings to set it to.
