I'm new to kayak fishing. Where is the closest place to launch to the flats? Where do you park? I'm not from the area.I plan on staying close until I get more experience. Thanks for your help.

you can launch your yak at the bay park right next to the boat ramp, and you park in the municipal lot thats across the street.

Also there's a beach at the end of Lakeshore drive with parking.

I'm new too but I went to Belford last week to surf fish and was kivking myself that i didnt bring the yak. I think it was Thompson ave that I took off of rt 36. if you're looking at the water from Thompson; to the left of the boat launch is a little rocky road where I parked 30 feet from the bay next to the naval pier. I didnt see any signs that you couldnt be there. Might go tomorrow to do exactly what Dale said ^^

Thomson Ave would have put you in North Middletown, but any road from Laurel ave south to Wilson Ave will put you on Pt. Monmouth Rd which is where the water is

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.I'm all in, ordered a dry top and waders and all the necessary safety gear. All that is missing is landing some fish.

Please use a Saftey flag so the boaters can see you

It's pretty scary what a slight chop will do to make a kayak almost disappear in the troughs.
Also highly recommend STAY OUT OF THE CHANNEL! If you need to cross don't dawdle
sounds like common sense, but apparently not too (common.)

So i went out yesterday, left my house at 5:00am
got to the water around 6 ish give and take.
went to keyport, lawance harbor, keansburg, belford, leonardo, sandyhook.
the wind was just way to strong at that point. so i took a nap in my car. finally did get out around 11:00am, was with a friend. His Hobie has been converted over to a islander big sail, pontoons and heavy. so we had to launch out of belford.
wind was still their but not as bad. water temp was 48.8 tops,
marked very little bait, found only one school of fish was tiny. so i paddles out to the end of earl pier and back in zig zag pattern nothing. i was fine with that i wanted to try out some new items i had bought over winter and see how they respond on the yak. so i may not have caught any fish but i learned another lesson on my yak.
defiantly need a dry-suit guys.
be safe and tight lines t^ t^
