Another unsettled week with mixed weather and water conditions. Monday and Tuesday will be controlled by high pressure, with dry conditions and average temperatures and humidity. Highs on Monday and Tuesday will be in the low to mid 80’s with overnight lows in the 60’s and 70’s and moderate humidity. Wednesday will bring a lifting warm front with chances of scattered showers and thunderstorms for the rest of the week. Highs will lift into the upper 80’s and low 90’s (cooler at the shore by a few degrees) and overnight lows into the 60’s and upper 70’s. Dew points will not be much lower than these overnight lows with the hot and moist air moving into the region. It will be muggy and sticky with high humidity. Water conditions will be very mixed by day, time and location. Overall more borderline than cautious conditions and inshore waters will probably see good conditions over borderline. Winds will be the main concern at 10-15 knots with some gusts to 20 knots, making seas build to 4 feet at points. Friday may have seas to 5 feet in areas. Winds and seas will be for short periods, as opposed to long durations. Any thunderstorms could bring additional winds and seas. Surf and beach conditions look good overall. Rip Current Risks will be Low with surf heights 1-3 feet. A Low Risk does not mean NO risk and conditions could change daily. Water temperatures are steady in the 70’s and pushing 80’s in some places. UV Index will be Very High at 9-10/15.

High pressure will continue to slowly build towards our region, shifting over our region by Monday and off shore sometime Tuesday. A warm front lifts through our region Wednesday, bringing hot and humid conditions for Thursday. Another cold front is expected to slide south and stall over the Mid Atlantic this weekend.

The weekend will be mostly dry with continuation of hot temperatures, but maybe some relief from a cold front. With the cold front showers and thunderstorms are possible. Right now, highs will be in the 80’s and 90’s with 60’s and 70’s overnight. Water, surf and beach conditions look good right now.

The tropics are quiet still!

Have a great week and thanks for reading!

Title: Re: Update Through Friday
Post by: Pfishingruven on July 13, 2016, 02:09:35 PM
Today (Wednesday) starts the lifting of a warm front across the state. Today's highs will only be in the mid 80's inland, but already the dew point/humidity is higher than yesterday. Overnight lows tonight will not drop out of the 70's most places with moderate to high humidity. Tomorrow will see temperatures in the upper 80's and 90's with dew points in the 70's all day and heat indices into the 100's with high humidity. These temperatures combined with the humidity will make for dangerous conditions, especially in the young, elderly, and sick. Also, remember, animals can be affected too... Heat Watches have been issued for Mercer, NW Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester Counties, as well as urban and surrounding suburban areas of Philadelphia!

Weather Ready Nation Heat Safety (http://www.nws.noaa.gov/os/heat/)

In addition to the heat, rain and thunderstorms are possible the next three days. There is a Generalized Risk of thunderstorms today. There is also a Flash Flooding Risk for South and Western parts of the state due to rain coming from the southwest. 2+ inches of rain locally could fall this afternoon/evening. Thursday will see a Marginal Risk of Severe Weather and Friday will be another Generalized Risk. Thunderstorms could quickly move in or easily pop-up, so be aware of changing weather conditions and have a way of receiving alerts!

Title: Re: Thursday's Severe Weather Threats
Post by: Pfishingruven on July 14, 2016, 02:25:21 PM
With the heat and humidity and even a weak approaching front, it will signal the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms today. With dew points in the mid to upper 70's statewide, it is very humid with heat indices near or above 100 degrees today. Northern parts of the state are in a Slight Risk for Severe Weather and Sussex & Warren Counties...Bergen, Morris & Passaic have also been added as of 1430 hours are in a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 1900 hours. This area is also at risk for Flash Flooding from any heavy rains. A line of storms is moving into this area from PA. The rest of the state is in a Marginal Risk and extreme Cape May County is only in a Generalized Risk. The main threats today are organized clusters/squall lines of thunderstorms capable of heavy rains, dangerous lightning, damaging winds, and hail. Supercells are possible and with these could come isolated tornadoes, but these are not the main threats today!

In addition to thunderstorms, Excessive Heat Warnings are in effect for Philadelphia Urban and Suburban Areas including Mercer, NW Burlington, Camden & Gloucester Counties. The rest of the state is in a Heat Advisory and Air Quality Alerts.

Be aware of changing weather conditions and have a way of receiving weather alerts. Do not drive through flooded roadways. Try and stay cool!

Post by: Pfishingruven on July 15, 2016, 01:04:40 PM
There is a Generalized Risk of thunderstorms today, likely scattered this afternoon through night. Excessive Heat Warnings are in effect for Mercer, NW Burlington, Camden & Gloucester Counties. Temperatures will be in the 90's again with dew points in the low to mid 70's, making high humidity and heat indices around the 100 mark!
