Met Capt John B., Hareball, Anthony, and Ralph at the boat around 7:00 am for a sea bass trip. We were greeted with some snow and ice on the boat to help get us in the spirit of the season, and off we went. Stopped out side the inlet insight of a couple of working birds, marked some fish and a lot of bait about 5-15' off the bottom, but no takers. Shot out to our spot with a little sleet and rain along the way in our 2 hoarse open sleigh, and I can assure you I was not signing jingle bells... These guys pried me out of my warm bed for this one. It took us 3 drops of the anchor to hook up just right, conditions were a little tough today anchoring with one anchor on the wreck, but once we set up, it was none stop action. We had to hook into 200+ sea bass and kept about 35 fish. Too many throw backs for my liking. The dog fish were insane, when we attempted to slide slightly off the wreck in hopes of a few porgies. All in all, great day with the guys taking in the crisp cold air while we played drop and reel. Capt John B, has a new found respect for Hareball after pulling in 300 feet of anchor line, “funny what a little manual labor will do". GOOD TIMES!!!

Nice Report Capt. t^ Pulling in Anchor rode that's about the same as throwing Pizza dough. TT^
-
Something tells me he would rather be out hauling the anchor than flipping pizza.
-
Great job guys............ya gotta get a windlass......best thing I ever put on da boat TT^
-
Yeah, I gotta get me one of dem wenches for my boat. TT^
-
It's like offshore bull riding! Grab the line, sit down on the Bow and start pulling while the bow rises 6' then drop and smashes the pulpit into the next wave ;D As much as I hate pulling Anchor I like doing it just as much, but it's always nice to stick it on the first shot and get to the fishing. t^
-
It's always fun until the bow dips just a liiiiitle bit too much and your A$$ gets drenched. TT^
-
No doubt!! Yesterday the sleet and spray was in full force but I was waterproofed from head to toe. TT^
-
so much easier especially when you are alone..........my back thanks me every trip TT^ TT^
Joe if you get one get the free fall model, so much nicer t^
-
That's what I hear Bob. One of these years... TT^

What make and model would you recommend there Capt. Bob?
Just looked at one on Boaters World website a Lewmar Horizon 600, and it got a really bad review.
-
I guess I will have to start yelling "MARKER BOUY!!!"

Mike,
i have the Lewmar Sportfish 450 free fall.....have had it for three years now and no problems. My buddy has had his for 5 years with no problem and Capt Matt put one on this spring and everything is good.
Only down side is they come with a cheesy switch and breaker, I bought better ones, I keep the breaker in by the battery back and throw it off at the end of every trip, as they windlas is wired right to the battery I don't want to take a chance on any battery draw.....
If you go to one let me know I have a place inTexas that sells anchor rodes with the tapered back splice at the chain. good prices I just bought a 300' 1/2 rode with 10' of chain for $150.00 TT^
-
Thanks for the help Capt. I will keep that in mind.
TT^
-
CaptBob, did you do the install or did someone do it for you?
-
Joe,
No little ol me did it all.......pretty simple straight forward stuff......hardest part was snaking the wires TT^
-
How do you yell at a windlass?
rofla hhppy rofla hhppy
i'm sure you'll find something to yell at john and I about. ;D
Save your money, now if we start working with 2 anchors i'll be more than happy to flip switched on a windlass!
-
Bob, did you have a pulpit on the boat or did you install that also?
-
Joe
No I had a pulpit on the boat and the anchor rode locker was right behind it so it was easy to line up. I put the windlass on the anchor locker door, backed it inside with 1/2 oak and added another lock hasp to secure the locker door better.
