Hi Guys, last two trips out were slow, 12/29 was rough conditions and couldn't make it too far south of the hook, so trolled around Naval pier to chappel hill near round shoal, had markings but could not buy a bite on the troll or jigging. 1/5/08 conditions were great, no signs of life worked from scotland to the shrewsbury rocks from 1 to 3 miles out, nothing. Only marked like three fish all day! No bait anywhere! No birds! Tried bottom fishing scotland, the reef and rattlesnake, only bergalls. Went out to 17 fathoms, quite a few boats, nothing but bergalls, probably would have got a few on green crabs but had none. Tried gulp, clams and squid. Main focus was to be stripers on the troll. Guess its time to hang it up! Tight Lines!

Good try. You are right about the green crabs. They would have worked. t^

I feel there is still good blackfishing to be found in northern NJ.
I fished the Fisherman Buoy area New Years Day in far less than ideal conditions. We were in @ 65' of water and had a good bite.
With very little to no cold water run off/snow-ice melt the water is still relatively warm.

This time of year gets to be very iffy. Especially inshore. We are still getting stripers off the beach but the catch has thinned out drastically. It could be because there is a lack of intel because there are so few fishermen out there or the tail end of the run is over.
Either way, it is good to just be out there good job and thanks for the report.
Happy Catching
