Title: Gambler offshore 1-12-08
Post by: Duffman on January 13, 2008, 10:08:23 AM
Headed out with Capt Bobby and the Gambler crew on Sat morning to the offshore wrecks.
We worked 5 drops, starting to the south and working our way north, then inshore a bit. Had a decent pick at each stop. Usual suspects of c-bass, eels, a few pollack, nice showing of cod, porgies, ling, and the ever elusive and endangered dogfish.
Nice steady action through the day, everyone had a decent mix in their coolers by days end.
I took my role in stride as the dogfish monger. Someone had to keep them occupied while others filled the cooler!!!!
NOAA again blew it. Wind was SUPPOSED to gradually die out (according to the last Friday PM forecast) but kept steady around 15-20 all day. A few green faces onboard, but everyone made it to the rail EVENTUALLY!!!
Cant say enough about Capt Bob and his crew. Great job guys. The guys on deck were on top of everthing. How they get braid out of massive tangles w/o cutting line I'll never know!!
Yo, Mboy,  I used the Tsunami with a Diawa Saltist 50.  Awesome setup for these offshore trips. Held a 20 oz sinker w/o a problem.  Thanks.

H/R - a conger. Biggest I have ever seen. It wasnt weighed but easily was 20 lbs +

Mike that rod was perfect. At one point I had 20 oz of lead on the rig, and a 5 lb c-bass, rod worked perfect.  Light enough to hold all day, nice foregrip that was long enough to rest on the rail when needed.  I actually prefer this rod over my Lami that I used to use on these wreck trips.

Glad I have 1 of them left for myself, 2 lighter action versions (MH) and 3 heavier (xh) (one going to WB) :)
