Hi Ruger314,

For my 21 ft. that I do not use for charters with a 2005 200HP Yamaha and trailer (boat insured for $20K - I do not have the policy with me to tell you all the other coverages including liability) is $387/year with State Farm.

I do not know if this is the best but I put it up here for comparison.

Thanks,

Capt. Ed

I have my 22' cc insured by ALLSTATE. I have multiple cars(3) and the boatcovered by them It also has a $200.00 towing clause I was forced to use one time and it came in handy. My towing is also covered with BOATUS. They also cover my 2 jet skis. Allstate doesn't cover jet skis.
Theft and liability are the big things to consider.

Got best rate from Allstate. Use Boat US for on water towing.  Membership, unlimited towing, trailer club for around $159.00.  Small price to pay for peace of mind.

Guys,
Just an FYI.  Make sure your policy includes any oil spill coverage.  Some companies charge less because they do not cover this.

Also, good idea to have at least liability coverage even if you don't have payments on the boat.  This won't cover your boat but it will cover your butt if someone gets hurt on or because of your boat.  Too many things can and do go wrong to get your butt in a jam.
Just my thoughts on that.

Right on Irish Ayes....Liability almost a must in todays litigious society. I'll have to check my policy to see if it covers oil spills.( Never thought of it)

Capt John,
I actually should have said fuel spills but it covers for both.  Too easy to have a fuel spill accident these days.  Easy  to overflow or even come out of the vent.  Better to be safe than sorry.

I just got a quote from Allstate and Boat Us.

Around same price, but Allstate has 500k coverage where Boat US was 300k.

Allstate has 800k spill coverage, not sure if boat us had any.

Higher dedcutible on Allstate, but coverage seems far better for roughly same premiuim (both stated coverage $$ on my 2003 Sea Boss 21 I am buying this week.

mboy,
My coverage with BoatUS is for agreed upon value for replacement.  The value placed on my boat/motor is $38,000.00.  That is what they will pay if I have the unfortunate need for replacement (sinking/fire/whatever).  Check Allstate to make sure it is the same and not a pro rated figure on any loss you may have. Such as, now your boat is worth only XX amount.  If that is the same, it sounds like you have a winner.

BoatUS coverage for fuel spill is 800K, same as Allstate.

I hate trying to figure out any kind of insurance.  So much legalleze talk.

Yes, it is for stated value (agreed upon value) with no depreciation, so they are the same.

Boat US has the fishing gear coverage of 5k, but doubt I would ever use that.
