Was down at boat today. Took a peak at transom (while it was way up on rack) to see where I am going to put the tabs.
Turns out sopme jackass mounted the transducer (transom mount) too far to starboard (upon initial inspection) and I may have to move transducer, fill holes, etc.
Anyone ever do this?
-
yes on a previous boat....no big shakes...plug the screw holes with 5200.....make sure you munt the transducer level t^
-
I had to move mine. Very easy. Pull the screws and fill the holes with a quick set epoxy. I used a syringe to inject the epoxy into the screw holes. Once the epoxy set up, I put a thin coat of marine tex on top of that to give it a smooth finish. Once you bottom paint over that, the repair will be invisible.

You can actually put 5200 on the old screws and reinstall them into the holes, thus covering the holes and making a good seal. That is, as long as the old screws do not interfere with the new transducer or the trim tabs you are putting on.
-
okay you guys got one on me ;D WHAT IS THIS 5200? ???
-
5200=3M adhesive. it's like silicon, fills voids/seals out water. the 5200 set hard.
Mike, another way to fill holes, this will take more work.

Thanks. I may recruit Duffman (Think Sat April 19th dUFFMAN) IN WEXCHANGE FOR SOME Heineken bottles and an early spring striper run :)
I imagine it will have to be done same day/weekend as I do my tabs and that seems to be the best date so far :)
I don't imagine it will be too difficult. Figure I will use epxy and marinetex or whatever west marine has in a kit to patch it up.
-
5200 = good. Marine tex = better IMO. If you've ever used auto body filler you'll be comfortable with Marine Tex. Mixes/works/sands like filler. Bonds to just about anything (ruff up the surface first) & lasts almost forever. They even make different colors but a little btm paint & you won't see it anyways.

i SPOKE WITH MY TECHNICAL ADVISOR (WHO WILL BE ONE OF THE PEOPLE HELPING ME WITH MY TABS). mY MAN yUNG gULL AND HE RECO'D EXoxy filler with marine tex to cover on outside ( I think). So, that sounds like the plan.
If anyone is free the weekend of the 19th-20th of April (and 26th of April), we are having a Funkymunkys boat prep party for the 2008 season :)
Unlimited beer for those who attend :)

That late in the season? Shouldn't your boat be in the water by then. 5hrug

May 1 is the earliest at my marina.

Mboy, I'm was new at MC last year so I must have bumped into you at least a couple of times. Between your references to Young Gull and 5/1 drop in date, the light just went on.
I'm looking to mount a transducer myself this year and was going to caution you on placement of the ducer because of the forks on the lift but I'm figuring you're a slipper skipper and don't have to worry about getting picked. I rack so placement is critical. Look forward to seeing you as close to 5/1 as possible. Joe

Slipper Skipper, I like that...

Not sure when my sons baseball season gets going? Either way, games are usually early so I'll be there on the 19th to give ya a hand.
Got to get my own ride uncovered. Put off by the flu that then turned into a sinus infection >:(
I feel like I've been drinking for 2 weeks straight w/o actually drinking (meds, meds and more meds)
I realized one thing, I really miss drinking chrz rofla

Soory to hear you're under the weather Duffman.
Stay away from those meds... Bud's wiser!!!
