4 fishermen rescued by Coast Guard as boat sinks
By Michelle Sahn • March 13, 2008
POINT PLEASANT BEACH — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued four fishermen whose boat sank 30 miles off the coast of Point Pleasant Beach.
Two Coast Guard helicopter crews rescued William Albert, William Albert, Jr., Roy Rogers and Ron Cox, who abandoned their 97-foot fishing boat and were aboard a life raft, the Coast Guard said.
Around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, the Coast Guard received a mayday call from a crewman aboard the Captain Joe, who reported the boat was taking on water and the men were going to abandon ship.
The helicopter crews arrived on scene, found the men aboard the life raft, and hoisted them to the helicopters, according to the Coast Guard.
The men were treated and released at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.
The Captain Joe sank 30 miles off shore.
The rescue crews were from Air Station Atlantic City.

Anyone know what happened to cause the sinking? ???

Asbury Park Press story on the sinking. Apparently a pipe burstin a hold.
Click on the Multimedia extra at the end of the story to hear the mayday call go out. You can hear the fear in the captain's voice. Makes the hair stand up on the nape of your neck. There is a lot of silent air time between radio transmissions.
