My son and I are headed to the keys for 3 days of fishing. We are leaving Friday night flying in to Ft Lauderdale and spending the night there. Up early the next morning and driving to Islamorda to go tarpon fishing at Bud and Mary's Marina. This will be my first tarpon trip. We will take one day off to just goof off and relax and head to Marathon Key for two trips one on Monday and one on Tusesday with Capt Pip. These trips will head either offshore or reef and wreck fishing. Both of us are excited to get out on this trip. Last year was a nothern Quebec trip for walleye and northerns. Froze our buttts off. This year we will hope for some warmer conditions. Will keep you posted.

I used to go my birthday week, which is approaching, and the tarpon were the target at that time. It is the early part of the season, but they were there.

First Welcome Aboard I believe I missed your first post. I must be slipping or just working to hard.
Second, I was just reading an article about the Tarpon season down there and they say this year should be a good one.
Like Irish Ayes said please post a report when you return and pictures are a must for us guys that done travel too much.

I was unable to get a internet connection for two days so this report is a little late. Pulled into Bud and Marys early Sat. We met our guide at 4 and we were fishing by 4:30. The tarpon are in and guys were catching them every evening.
We were using live mullet and fishing the edge of a channel. I had two real quick run offs and never got to turn him. Lots of surface explosin and seeing the fish in the air is awsome.
Meanwhile my son hooks a baracuda. The fish was all over the place. We boat the fish for shark bait for a future trip. The cuda weighs 30lbs.
We than catch a nurse shark. They were all over 100lbs.
Then junior gets slammed. I saw the fish hit the mullet. Just destroyed it. Junior has the fish on for quite awhile. Gets the fish to the boat, and the guide says 90lbs before the release. Nice fish but now it's dark so we head back to the marina. A real nice 4hr trip.
We are going to take a day off then head to Marathon for two days of wreck and offshore. I'll get some pics up and update the Monday trip.

There is nothing like fishing in Fla., except when you tie into a good Jersey striper.
Thanks for the report. I got to get back down there to do some fishing.
