With a bill of sale or a notorized letter from the seller. Either should work with MVD.

Just went through it with DMV.
Notarized letter/bill of sale with your name/address, sellers name/address, trailer make, model #, and selling price.
And a tip:  all trailer registrations are renewed in NJ the month of March.  I registered my trailer in January and paid an $18 pro-rated fee for ther year 2007. In March I had to renew for the year again. I basically paid the state 18 bucks to have my trailer sit in winter storage for 2 months  bngh
