I spooled it up with 30 lbs power pro, put it on the rod Uncle Luna gave me, and it is sweeeeet... I put on a diamond jig and started casting in my yard. Very smooth, very nice drag, held alot of line, and I can understand why most people are using the bait casters over the spinning. So far it gets 3 t^ t^ t^

Congrats nick! I still have my first baitcaster..an ABU 5500, that still works great.. I got it when I was about 18, and I'm 45 now, so that reel should last ya a while.. good choice TT^
-
You finally came over to the dark side ;) chrz chrz
-
Glad to hear it matches up nicely with that pole I got for you now I have to get mine.
-
Good luck with it Nick. When ya going to christen it?
-
put it to use today for the first time.. I have to say, I can cast a country mile with it.. Very smooth. The gear ratio isn't as good as the spinning reels I have, but so far, better then expected.

Like nick said I also bought the abu garcia 5600D6 reel tried casting it today with one of the poppers won at the party last week. Even I can cast it pretty far. After Nick tied it on for me I have to learn to tie the power pro braided line Nick gave me my first lesson now I have to practice myself.

Nice reel guys! I've always liked Abu reels and haven't picked up one yet that can't cast, and soooo smooth. t^

Nick, Uncle Luna ,Treebeard, I too have those Abu garcia 5500 and 6500 reels they do plenty or work for me.This year I sent them to Abu Garcia to be rebuilt and came back looking new again for another bunch of years.Of cource I bought an extra one (a gift to myself) Good luck with yours. Catch em up. AJ

Now I want one! :P :P t^

I just received a 7000 back from Abu (purefishing) and after $32 it still ain't right. Not too happy. Going to have to call them tomorrow.
Reel si 25 years old, but they should have fixed it properly. The other 3-4 I have work just fine.

Mike do you think the ABU 5600 would be too small for that Tsunami MH?
-
Yes. Most definitely.
A Nice reel for that rod (it is a 30- 40lb rod I believe)would be a Shimano Charter Special 2000 lever drag (I have 3). That MH is def not a casting rod, more of a boat rod or good for trolling type rod (not bad for live lining bunker either). 2000LD w/30 or 50lb braid would do you right.
I still have 1 MH. I have 3 2000ld's and will primarily use them on my tsunam 6'6" M rods, but will also use one on the MH when I need to step up in rod size 9trolling larger spoons, shad rigs, etc).

You don't really want to tie a ure directly to the braid.
I ALWAYS have at least 3-5' of mono on after the braid no matter what fishing I am doing. When casting plugs or metals, jigs, etc, I will frequently tie on a good 2-3' shock leader of heavy mono as well.

Yep I was orig planning on a penn 309 I have for that MH to use trolling but also have a 320 waiting for a rod, figured why not buy another reel?
I know some are not fans of penn reels, and have not tried abus in years- since my unc was using them way back
I obviously have not exceeded my rod/reel quota yet
Thanks!

I am pretty much at my limit on mine. Need a couple more reels and maybe 1 more rod, but I am about done and I just sold 2 last week.

Too bad I really don't have a rod to match this with....oh wait, that never stopped me in the past. Another excuse for another set-up.... ;D

Go for it Doc. TT^

Factory reconditioned reels from FFO are real nice TT^
Got a couple from there and no troubles with them at all. They all looked brand new as well t^
