Interesting.
* More than 70,000,000 Americans enjoy recreational boating each year. (U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention)
* Annual boat registrations have increased steadily from just over 10 million in 1988 to nearly 13 million in 2005. (U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention)
* Outboard boats accounted for nearly half of all boats in use with more than 8.5 million on the water in 2006. (National Marine Manufactures Association)
* Nearly one-third of U.S. adults went boating in 2006, up nearly two percent from the previous year. . (National Marine Manufactures Association)
* There were approximately 12,073 marinas in operation in the U.S. in 2006, accounting for nearly 875,000 total slips throughout the U.S. The average marina had 72 slips. (National Marine Manufactures Association)
* Florida was the top state for marinas, followed by New York, Michigan, Vermont and California. The top five states account for nearly half of the marinas in the U.S. (49 percent) and four out of 10 slips. (National Marine Manufactures Association)

Surprised VT had more slips then NJ.

The APP had an article this past weekend, I believe, that stated while the national trend is up, NJ is down on boating activity. Let's turn it back around. 5hrug

I'd have to say ALOT of those Boats never leave their slip yet still have to be current with registration. Many people love the Marina lifestyle and own boats that are not seaworthy.

Bob you are so correct. When I was in Emergency Management I tried to reason with the state to take into consideration the amount of boats that are in an area that would skew the evacuation statistics during a disaster. They told me it was not enough to worry about.
How many homes on lagoons, let alone marinas, have boats behind them that are not owned by the homeowner, but allow a friend or relative to dock there.
I can show you an areal shot of just a small part of Toms River that would make your head spin with the amount of docking space available.
