Keep a 40 or 50+ lb bass if you caught one?

No I would release the 40's & 50's.

40's become 50's

50's become 60's

Within the next 2 yrs the record will be broken.

I would only keep it if I was going to mount it or weigh it in for a tourney.  A picture is really all you need.

Take a picture and measurements for a fiberglass mount.  A fish that big has real thick skin which will not process well for a real mount.  The oil will bleed through and you will have to have it repainted periodically.  Taxidermist I knew would not take one that big because people always complained a few years later when it started to turn yellow/brown.  He would only do a replica once they cleared 30lbs.  Take some pics, have the replica done and you can put them all up on the wall and say you released the fish to catch it again when it gains 10lbs.

I waited this year to make the 30+ club.....both fish were released.  Plan to release anything over 30.....unless it is one for the record books; or would get me into the dreamboat contest....that would be 50+ most likely.

Too bad the slot fish was eliminated...the smaller the better for the grill or pan.

I am strictly C&R so it would go back to create bigger trophies.

I would though take all the measurements and pictures and probably have a fiberglass model made by taxedermistguy on our site.  He does some fantastic work.

Exactly what he said. I have a 27 pounder on my wall, I thought that was big. I guess not. Its nearly 40 inches long, she was a thin one. 5hrug

Great question.Like so many of you, I have had some nice fish in past years and we kept them, took pictures and enjoyed the fillets.
Presently I would picture, measure, weight and release.
Tournaments and Dream Boat and Prize money.Requires they see the fish.
I should be so lucky...

with the dream boat contest, it forces you to keep a trophy fish.
