Title: Reel Class Mixed Bag 6/21
Post by: Reel Class on June 21, 2008, 06:42:03 PM
Had Steve Magyari, Mike Accordino, Tom Breeland, and George Push aboard for a bass then fluke/bottom trip.

Ran south. Found bunker off Mantoloking, made bait rather quickly, and worked some pods from there to Normandy Beach, with nothing to show for our efforts. The boat traffic was simply insane.

Ran off to a few lumps and rough spots off the beach to do a little fluke/bottom mixed bag, and found a mix of spiny dogfish, skates, seabass, and ling - no fluke! Got a call around 10:45 about the insane jig bite going on a bit to our south, and after discussing this with the crew, it was off to the races.

Found the bluefish a few miles off Ortley, immediately had 4 on, and it was that way as we followed this massive school of fish south through IBSP.. When we started heading for home we were 4 miles N of Barnegat Inlet... Most fish were 7-10#, spitting up sardines, rainfish, and bunker. As soon as we read the fish, we caught. Had 2 insane drifts, the rest were just a pick. Thank god for the bluefish, they saved the day!

Started back for home at around 1, worked a few more bunker pods off Ortley/Lavalette, again not even a runoff.

Good day, worked hard for our keep today. I will post the pics from today, and from a few other previous trips on the website tomorrow  TT^

That's a good amount of ground you covered there Captain. Good job in getting the crew on the bite.  t^

Thanks guys... Yeah Joe, we had ventured quite a bit south - it actually turned out to be a good omen as a NASTY thunderstorm cropped up off Ortley/Lavalette which eventually turned into a waterspout about 2-3 miles off - this was unconfirmed by the weather people but it sure looked like one.

We completely missed it on the way in as it passed offshore, but that sky looked ominous
