I have a nice standard sized Chesapeake style crab pot. I load it up with bunker or bluefish, ans set it down for an amount of time ranging from a 4 days to 4 hours. I generally leave it next to my boat or in the back of the Manasquan river in about six feet of water. I generally catch about 1 keeper crab. rgmn 5hrug They seem to eat the bait fully, so i don't think that is the problem. do you guys have any strategies for finding a good location to drop?

The problem might not be the location but the pot and the long soak time.
While on vacation down in Fla. I saw a show on crabbing and/or lobsters. They put an underwater camera focused on the pot for over 24 hours and they figured that they were only catching about 40% of what really went into (and out of) the pot. Unbelievable...

the problem is you may be leaving it in to long. Over night the longest. The crabs will start eating each other, or they can still find a way to excape. Find a nice creek where the creek and the bay meet together, set it off the bank over night. Or the channel edges for a few hours.
