Title: XTOOLS E-Z Release Dehooker
Post by: njdevil on July 09, 2008, 12:39:45 PM
Does anyone have and use the XTOOLS E-Z Release Dehooker? It looks like it would work well. I have a pair of XTOOLS pliers and I am very happy with them.

I am not sure what it looks like.I will check out some of the catologs.
Uncle Luna and Luna Sea use a very simple de hooker that I went ahead and made out of some metal attached to a wood handle and  PRONTO.
Works fine. They do make them out of stainless however.
Winter projects...     GoodLuck.

Quite easy to make You get the metal handle from
a 5 gallon pail (Spackle pail) The ends attached to the pail are already hook shaped.
All you really have to do is shape it in the form of the letter J. It helps to have some heat to form the handle and make it easy to bend. With alittle practice anyone can do it.

Thanks for pics. and site Capt. Bob.
Thanks to Uncle Luna and Luna Sea(sorry for lossing the original in S/s Nick)I have made some out of the five gallon buckets.
They work fine.
But nobody can pick up the buckets any more. HeHeHe.

I have to try that.  I have a few old buckets in the garage, is the J just as good as the circle version of the ARC Dehooker?

With the circle version or the double bend in the end piece you can dehook a deep hooked fish by 'poking' the de-hooker down.

With the single bend you need to grab the leader and pull it down so the hook turns to be able to release it. Works great for that type of hook up.

Irish Ayes Joe is 100% correct.  IMHO,
The two dehookers work fine but the EXTRA  bend allows you to work the Deep hooked fish much easier.    Good luck,  AJ.

you still need a very stiff, strong dehooker if your going deep into the throat.  May cheap ones will bend when you try pusing the hook down with the second bend. This is what makes the bucket handles so great.. they are strong as hell.

cant really use them for a fluke that swallow the bait  though can u ? instead of pullin it out i usually cut the hook and leave it   better than  yankin it out ... not sure those would work on  fluke that swallow  bait will it ???
