Was not happy with time it took to get up on plane due to weight of engine and 35 gallon stern mounted gas tank. Opted to try an SE 300 Hydrofoil. Mounted it on my 90 Evinrude and to my amazement, it made a world of difference. She pops up on plane in seconds where before it could take 10 times longer. Also less RPM to maintain plane. Gained 4 MPH on top end, better handling and seems to be better gas milage.

Nice.. I had the same issue with my 18' Jon.. It only has a 4-stroke 40 and between the 3 batteries and my prodigious can aft, she wallowed like a pig prior to getting on plane.. Installing the foil made a pretty dramatic improvement..Also fixed a little problem I was having with cavitation in a head sea. chrz

I have that same one on my 250hp yammies and I noticed that I don't have to use my trim tab as much to keep the bow down, and it has given me a little more milage. Not as much porposing also and a 100-200prpm more.
Well worth the $60 and the thirty minutes it took to install. TT^

this is used instead of trim tabs.. is that correct..

It really doesn't take the place of atrim tab, but helps the gbasic functions of it. It won't help at all with making the boat ride level(port to starboard). On a small boat it might take the place of it, but anything over 15-17', I would want a trim tab.

I ment was.. If i have trim tabs, is there a need for this also.

It's not a must, but helps a bit. I do notice I don't trim tab as much as I used to without em.
