Title: Irish Ayes fluking 8-22
Post by: IrishAyes on August 22, 2008, 07:14:54 PM
Had Matt, Ed and Jeff aboard today. Hit squid head for a long float as there was no drift. Matt picked up a keeper at 18 1/2 inches. Had a lot of action with skates.

Getting tired of the skates we moved offshore to the Pinta wreck hoping for sea bass on the wreck and fluke on the edges.

Had several small seabass and a lot of missed seabass bites. No fluke bites.

Got a call from Pop's Soul. He reported a run of short fluke where he was, northeast of the Sea Girt reef. We picked up our gear and ran to his location.

Drifted this area for a while and managed several keepers and a lot of short fluke. Some short sea bass mixed in too. A lot of action.

Ended the day off of Bradley Beach.

Final tally, 6 keeper fluke to 22 1/2 inches, numerous short fluke, almost as many short sea bass and way too many skates. Had enough skates today to furnish all the teams in the National Hockey League with them.

Used squid, both whole and strips with spearing and smelt today. Water temp 72 degrees, no wind in the am, SE at 15+ in the afternoon.
