I contacted Normark Corporation (a.k.a. Rapala) which is the parent company of Luhr Jensen. I asked them about their decision to discontinue the larger size Krocodiles. I asked first if it were true, and if it were true, what was the reason for that decision. Below is their response.
Thank you for your email.
Attached is what we are selling for 2009.
The decision to discontinue a certain lure and/or color is a collaborative decision between many different departments. Our Marketing, Product Development and Sales Teams all have input into this decision. Mostly it comes down to whether or not the volume is being sold. The reason a color or lure is discontinued is that sales do not meet projections and it does not prove economical to make the lure.
You can try finding any discontinued lure on an auction website such as Ebay. Some people have had luck finding discontinued items there.
Thank you for your comments and use of our products. We appreciate every consumer that we have and thank you for using our product to enhance your fishing experiences.
Take care and Good Fishing!
Your friends at Rapala

Thanks for the info.

Wow, a lot of thought went into writing that response. That would cover any item they have, whether discontinued or not. nosmly

Can you say cover you arss... Nobody wants to commit to any thing any more!

Yeah, I hear you. Basically they said, "This is what's in our assortment going forward. If something is not there anymore it's because we can't make enough money on it to justify keeping it around."
So, it looks as though the rumors are true and the big Krocodiles are no more. 1 1/2 oz. is the biggest they'll make. :-\
Somehow though, I think someone will see an opportunity and start producing them (or something very similar) in the bigger sizes. Maybe not out of brass. Maybe in lead or stainless steel. Hmmmm....

It seems it always comes down to the money.
Management is covering their butts, and non commital.
I have tried a few different places with negative results.I'll use my other jigs
Hope somebody sees the opportunity here, then produces them and makes a BIGGER hit.So be it.

Anyone know of a good alternative? Another brand? I haven't had any luck finding them in 2oz or so. I don't use them much heavier than that from the surf.
Any word on the crippled herring they make?

I know I have mentioned this in another post but if you are having a hard time finding the Krocks Grumpys has a couple cases of them in different weights. Either give them a call or stop by and tell them I sent ya...Like that will get you some where. rofla

Thanks Paul...I am going to grab a few and put them away!!
I have searched and searched and searched the web for spoons...and there is not many that will replace style and weight of the Krocs! It's a shame to see a longstanding lure disappear >:(!
