Title: How to remove an embedded hook from your skin...
Post by: IrishAyes on January 07, 2009, 08:37:55 PM
I found this while looking for DIY boating/fishing items online.

I hope nobody needs it but good to know for when the inevitable happens. I know we had to do it twice on my boat in the past few years. One of the times it was on me...O U C H !!!

That's  a great tip Joe..  I'm gunna print that one out.  Yu know with the way Bobby Bucktail slings every thing he owns around the boat.  I'm sure it will come in handy one day?

One thing I learned from removing a hook a couple years back..  Do you have the right tool on board to cut the hook?  I make sure I have a clean pair of linesman on board now.

I watch a few of these videos on YouTube..  A lot of them where removing lures with a couple treble hooks.  I would think it would be smart to remove the other hooks from the lure so when you pull you don't embed the other hooks.

there is an emergency de-hooker available online from bass pro shops....pretty much the same concept but the loop goes thru a plastic tube whicih i think has a little more grip stability for pulling on...i think they are like 6 buck or something....just a nice extra to have in the medical kit i guess!

I had one in bad while on the Carolyn Ann once.  I just caught two very quality keeper sea bass and I was like in heavan and I was not paying attention and while reaching down for some more clam, one of the hooks went right in my finger.  Luckily Gina came over and got it out.  It was a mess.  I do that a lot.  Plus, I get stuck my porgy fins a lot.   I've lost a good amout of blood while on the ocean........   ;)
