out of Sayreville this morning at the crack of dawn with son Brian (Striper 74).we tried to get some peanuts at the ramp but no success,so headed out with squid and smelts as bait for the day.headed straight for the 14 can in the Reach, the bay was like sheet of glass and a beautiful sunrise.started at the 14 can area with great drift conditions.we gradually worked our way from here out to the 9 can in the Reach where the fleet was fishing.caught a couple blues and a bird that were cut up for bait,we had a pick all morning of mostly shorts with Brian catching most of them,a few just missing the mark by 1/8 of an inch.we each managed to put 1 in the box just over the 18 inch mark.around 11 headed back bay and only caught a few more shorts.it was getting hot,we headed in around noon, that was the plan,on early off early.great day on the water, had some action and put a couple in the box. Nice job. Same action all along the Reach, and everywhere else I went for that matter. At least the fillet time is cut down.
