Title: Raritan Bay 10/12
Post by: kezsr on October 12, 2009, 05:59:14 PM
out of Sayreville this morning with fishing buddy John before day break,it was a little bit of a cold ride in the open boat.started out drifting gulp live eels in the river, but no takers, didn't stay at this to long.headed out to open Bay and set up on the flats clamming, had picked up a little over a half bushel of clams yesterday.no takers here other than crabs and not even marking.decided to hit Flyns Knoll but stoppped on The Belford side of Ammmo pier and again set up clamming, noticed birds working and pulled anchor proceeded to chase and toss the metal, caught a few nice sized blues in the 10 lb range.then this died out,got a call from Eddie (Hunter 2)around 10 that he was on his way out.told him only thing for us were the bluefish for awhile.he had clams and was heading to Romers.we moved and set up on Flynns Knoll clamming, when the tide made the swing to the incoming got some action, had a nice pick of dogfish nosmly.finally John gets a nice run off and gets nice fat Striped one, that is just over the 28 inch mark that goes in the box.thought we had the start of something,we did, dogfish and crabs, that was it for the Stripers.running out of clams so decided to hit back bay again, talked with Eddie before leaving and he hadn't gotten into anything yet.heading to back bay spotted the birds working again just before Keansburg,we chased these for awhile and caught a few that were in the 2 to 4 lb range that were a lot of fun on light tackle.hit the back bay and tried one more time with the few clams we had left, but again no takers, headed in around 3,great getting out, haven't been out in over a month.Eddie was great talking to you, hopefully you ended with a good day.    Kez
