Title: Reel Class Fluke-Seabass 8/28
Post by: Reel Class on August 28, 2007, 04:42:49 PM
Finally things are starting to pick up... Had Tom Breeland, Jared Okerson, and Pete Kolvites aboard today for an open fluke trip.

Ran south, fished in deep water off some snags (60-75') w/ sandeels and fresh spearing, dragging bait, between Bay Head and Chadwick, and had solid action in our first half dozen or so drifts.  Lots of nice 18-20" fish, lots of throwbacks, some huge Raritan Bay thunder chickens, and just a skate or two rounded out the catch, as well as some nice seabass.  Good pick, then it dried up around 11:30.

Made a few moves to the north of the original spot, then in on the pipe, and picked away a bit more.

Tried a few drops in on the beach, not even a sniff.

Finished the day with a dozen quality keeper fluke in the box to just under 4# taken by Jared who also just missed his limit by a fish, and had 4 nice seabass as well.  Good day, hope tomorrow's even better!

(I will post the pics on my website tomorrow when I'm on my PC, this comp. doesn't allow me to upload pics DOH!)

It was actually a little bumpy from the NNE breeze, as it freshened the seas got maybe 2-4', but then it subsided a bit as it turned more easterly.
