The 1st (and hopefully) Annual NJSWF Surf Fishing Tournament will be held on Saturday, November 3rd.
Time: TBT
Beach: TBT
Please post if you are interested.
THIS WILL BE A MONEY (and PRIZE?) TOURNAMENT for longest striper and longest bluefish.
Entry fee is $10.00.
OPEN TO NJSWF MEMBERS ONLY.
$100.00 MINIMUM PRIZE FOR LONGEST STRIPER
GUARANTEED!
( I'm assuming this will be the first, have you guys had a surf fishing tournament before?)
-
It would be the first. We haven't done anything like that before.
I and/or Becky would probably be interested.
I'd suggest two things
1. Hold it somewhere in the Seaside Park - Lavallette area, as that stretch of beach is pretty accessible and generally holds fish in Nov.
2. Allow for entries to be measured, photo, released if the angler does not wish to keep the fish.
Good idea t^
-
I like it t^
What we did in the past.. it have a dollar bill laying ( Stuck) on the fish.. with that I can calculate the size down to the 1/8 inch ;D t^
-
Sounds good to me... I like the idea of using a beach that is acceptable to all. Plus the price is right.
Happy Catching

Good idea, I'm thinking it will be a spot where we will all be together, the same beach, the same spot. BBQ,s, Beverages, Snacks, K&P, etc.
It will be a social event as well as a contest.
-
Sounds good to me if work permits. Make official rules and hire REAL officials

Will do! Looking for more feedback on locations.
-
IBSP is always good as it has tons of great holes and cuts and is accessible by foot or we could set up a location as the sign in area and have every one fan out from there.
Yeah, there is a fee to get on but you can have a fire going and cook on the beach where I believe the others do not allow it or you have to have a permit.
-
Ortley beach has a giant free parking lot with easy access
-
My unsolicited 2ยข follows....
If you want a fishing contest with a social side, do coffee and donuts at a meeting point, pick a stretch of beach a mile or two long (outside IBSP), fish for 4, 6, whatever hours and then meetup after at a local bar/eatery for food, drinks and ball breaking.
If you want a social event with some fishing, IBSP might be the best bet as you can set up shop on the sand, fish, cook, etc.

Same with Brick Beach by the Thunderbird.

Count me in, you vets definately need a noob to laugh at ;D
-
Sounds good. I need to get back to my roots, been running the boat and not fishing the beach. Count me in.
-
If anyone needs a rod or 2 to get in on some of the fun I have extras to lend out for that day.
-
Make it $20 and throw in a NJSWF tshirt when you register. Also the Giants have a bye week Nov. 18th. Sounds like a great time for a fishing tournament!

I haven't seriously fished the surf in twenty + years.
If my busy schedule allows me to pull myself away from, ummmm, ummmm, whatever it is I do, I can either be in for fishing or as an official weigh master. Will see when a date is picked. t^

This is great....Count me in..... t^

The date is chosen, Be There!
I can feel the love, there will be BBQ, Breakfast, lunch, dogs burgers, etc. Come on everybody, lets do this. It's all about fun and fishing, it's what NJSWF is all about! If you've never surf fished before, this is the time to try!

I'm Impressed t^

slt Big John requested this post so here it is. grtn
suggested site ( Sandy Hook ) Everyone knows where it is and might of fished there, It has many beaches to chose from from the entrance to the tip.this time of year all the beaches are open to fishing. Some more popular then others. Plenty of Parking, Open at Sun Rise typ. 5am. closed at sun down, Easy access to all beaches. Tides 5hrug There are 2 covered Picnic Pavilions Called Guaddian Park with Tables and BBQ grills. first come first served. might be able to reserve it. But since this is a informal group ( RIGHT ) Just one happy family outing. t^ there is no group fees involved as with a organized Group outing. 5hrug Called rangers station earlier no fire on the beaches or BBQs I would suggest if this is the site picked that the The Pavilions be head quarters, Fish where you may HONOR system t^
it can be all set up and all the stuff can be set up and in place very early. with coffee and scrapple going hhppy. This also is a great family place also there are many things to see and do. a search of Sandy Hook Gateway National Park will show and tell of it all. I might also suggest a meeting of the minds maybe at the Hook Pavilion, like advance registration, Payed in Advance, Food costs. BYOB chrz is allowed in The National Park not in state parks :'( Prizes if any for the first time. I would ask the local bait shops for a sponsorship or prize. these are just my suggestions. And if anyone wants a full tour of The park it can be arranged for that day. From Gun emplacements and working historical Light House and Museum. Have to check the date if any other events or festivals are on that date At Fort Hancock . they would just add to the day.
Hope this is what you asked for BigJohn.
Photo is one of the Big guns being restored by a Militia they hold tours on weekends. it is Battery Gunnison just one of many places of interest . May of you probably have passed it all not knowing the history and its Mission From WW 1 to the Nike era Cold war. how the Sate took over and then turned it over to The Nation Parks. There is even Overnight Camping now do not know much about that yet TENT 5hrug CAMPERS 5hrug one thing would be cert en In the summer The Plague of the usual insects. think its called DEETVILLE thud Almost forgot ( Poison Ivy ) Skunks Fox Raccoon's bird watching

IBSP.. central t^
-
SHNP.. Central also t^ t^
-
I vote for IBSP, like Rod said it is central to the guys south as well. Plus the access to the beach is much better as their are parking areas 23 of them to be exact. Pick your beach that is close to a parking area and go for it.
We have used A10 before for NJSWF events and it worked out great. From there anglers can fan out either by foot or by beach buggie and fish tons of holes and cuts. A10, is one of the better holes as it has been very productive for years now especially at night.
As for me I have a walking problem (2 artificial hips) if Sandy Hook is chosen I will have to bow out. But,IBSP with its many lots I like a few others will have a better time getting around. Besides I have a beach buggie permit to drive on the beach. If any one wants I can ferry those in my situation back and forth from a lot to the surf.
Happy Catching
Paul
-
I will go where ever and when ever to fish with you guys and if needed I'll carry Paul if I have to so he can fish with us! Nuff said!!!!
-
Wow, thanks Trish, but I don't think you want of carry a big guy like me. That is why I have the beach buggie pass. I let the Expedition do all the work.
-

I agree Dave. Both of those spots have been suggested but, so far, have not gotten any consideration.
Ortley beach has a giant free parking lot with easy access
Same with Brick Beach by the Thunderbird.

Maybe we can put a poll up like you guys did for your offshore trip this weekend. We want to make it easy for everyone, some will have to drive further than others due to where they live, (3 hr tour hhppy ) but as long as we are together fishing and having a great time that's all that really matters. Well to me anyway... :P
-
I cast my vote for IBSP. Friends,Fish,Fire,Food,Fun.
Access, bonfire, miles of beach, an inlet, the pocket, jetty, back bay. It's got a lot to offer. Only downside is the rules state No Booze, got to keep it cool if you intend to indulge. Has any date/ time been chosen. Has the tides been factored in?
-
For Nov 3 we have a 1030am high tide 510pm low tide.
-
Nov 3 tides sound good. We start the event early, and have those hours leading to and after the high tide, then break for bbq lunch by the fire.
-
All suggestions have been given careful consideration.
Because open fires and BBQing is allowed and it's central location and because the fish catching possibility is best, IBSP is a winner. Meeting place and time (and rules) forthcoming.
-
Good job John clp..as always. Once all the details are in, we can all talk about a menu..who brings what and so on. I have a tiny lil charcoal BBQ that I can bring and whip up the burgers and dogs no problem....A nice long table to set everything on would be a good idea too. I syked, this will be great!!! TT^
-
Good lord.. a buffet table.. I'm in t^ chrz chrz
-
t^ I do not have much surf fishing gear but I might join in. I have an 8ft surf rod, is about it.

unforutnately can't make this cause going to be away this weekend.
However, I can only imagine what trish can bring to the table with this one. I mean last time she had everything but the kitchen sink in a cooler and bag. now she is going to have a car with her???? look out boys!!!
-
Bummer you cant make it.... :'(
You were so funny that day my cheeks hurt from smiling and laughing. hhppy I guess I do come prepared! LOL then this way everyone is happy!!!!
-
We'll most likely be there, even if only to hang out.
I have a beach pass so if anyone can't walk over the dunesor has a bunch of stuff, I can shuttle people/supplies.

I spoke with John and we'll scout things out a couple days before and pick an exact location to meet in the park based on beach conditions at the time.

heres my question. Would it be ok to bring a non njswf member to the tournament
Of course! The tournament itself is open to members but friends and family are very welcome. If possible, Please list the number of guests you will bring when you put your name on the sign up roster so we can estimate the food and beverages needed.
While the tournament is for members, I will be sure there will be enough BBQ for all.
-
Mr Limpett,
For clarity's sake, I would suggest starting a new thread. The first post being all the details for this event. Where? When? Who's invited? How much? Etc. Along with a place to update all those who plan on attending.
Once you set that up, I can close this thread and add a link to the new one. t^

BigAl and others Why not just have your friend sign up and become a contributing member. 5hrug good chance to Recruit. slt Bill
sorry, that won't work. I haven't posted the rules yet, but one of them is that a member is considered someone who has posted at least once before Oct.1st, 2012.
It will make sense, rules will be posted shortly.
