I have some exciting news (at least for me) for NJSWF. The National Weather Service's Citizen Liaison Program is known as Weather Ready Nation. This is the same program that promotes the Preparedness and Awareness Weeks. This program has a StormReady Component, which allows cities, counties and even states to meet criteria and be recognized as Weather Ready Locations. Smaller geographical areas within a city, county or state can also apply as Supporters. Places such as college campuses, large malls, neighborhood, etc...would qualify for this. A few weeks ago, the NWS took this process one step further creating Weather Ready Nation Ambassadors. This recognition is for clubs, groups, and other various organizations that both promote and embrace the Weather Ready Nation Standards.
I spent a couple pf weeks thinking about applying to WRN for NJSWF. So, I ran it by Rod on Saturday and he was all for it. I applied and today I received an email from the NWS Weather Ready Nation, that NJ Saltwater Fisherman has been accepted as Weather Ready Nation Ambassadors!! This is a new program, so we are one of the earliest groups accepted to this program. Of course, I did not do this for myself...I did this because I am extremely impressed at how well prepared everyone is. Despite, the joking around, this group takes the weather seriously! Everyone keeps weather aware, makes sure they are prepared, alerts other friends and family and makes the decisions necessary to save life and property! Hurricane Sandy was a real testament of this and very evident from weeks in advance to weeks afterwards. So, I want to THANK each and every one of the members here. I also want to thank Rod, Capt Joe, Bucktail, Paul and Nick for making NJSWF what it is today. Congratulations!!
So, what does this mean? It means that I will continue to be committed to bringing you weather from the NWS and various other agencies that keeps updated on WEATHER and Weather Events. From you, I just need you to keep doing what you have been doing; Read, stay aware, stay prepared and keep spreading the word. It also allows for some cooperative interaction between the NWS, including the local Weather Offices here in Mount Holly and New York City. This may actually break down some of the red tape and barriers that I have encountered in the past, allowing for some educational and outreach events from the NWS. This is all new, so we will have to see where it goes and where it takes us!

Congrats Matt. A nice achievement. Thanks for all your hard work and for keeping us posted.
As much as we do like to kid around on the site we are very safety conscious. Having our very own weatherman is a plus to our community. chrz

That is great news. My wife and I have been using this site for the local forecast (she is a teacher)for quite some time. Keep up the great work!

Thanks Matt, maybe now we could get a tour of Mt. Holly. I know they stopped tours because of cut backs BUT, with this maybe it will open a door or two.
