Headed east to try the Coney Is. flats and the Tin Can. Had six shorts and my PB smooth dogfish (16#). Took a ride to the start of Ambrose and joined a small fleet, more shorts and skates for me. Now off to the mud, first drift produces a nice 22" fish, second drift I drop a nice one half way up, repeat on third drift. Nothing after that. Moved inshore a bit, stopped on a rough spot. I sent my rig down and the line goes slack halfway down. I figuring I tied a bad knot. I started to retrieve the slack when a 5' Thresher starts a commotion on the surface about 20' behind my stern.
He was gone as quick as he appeared. Went back to bring in my line, I was suprised to see I still had my rig attached but it was a bit mangled. Having had enough excitement for the day, I headed in with one keeper.
