Title: Thermal Imaging?
Post by: Reel Time on July 24, 2014, 05:49:09 PM
Looks like this might have some potential, could be real handy in an emergency situation like MoB in the dark.

Portable Thermal Imaging for Iphone5<---clicky (http://www.flir.com/flirone/)

Would also assume it could be used to navigate channels in the dark by seeing the buoy's.

Will have to see it in use for its range capability's. Supposed to hit Apple stores in August for $350.00.

 What ya'll think?

5hrug .. I don't think a phone app will have a place in boating navigation yet. We have a thermal imaging camera at the firehouse and after looking down the street with it there is way too much distortion to navigate with. Just my 2 cents. May be useful for the things they mentioned but there are cheaper methods to find studs and things of sort. I don't for see myself diagnosing my dog either ... lol. Amazing the things these "phones" can do. .... chrz

I would need to see how it performed before committing to it. Maybe in a couple more years the advancements will be a lot greater, maybe even a night vision attachment.

I just remember being able to look through the thermal on a Bradley and you could see someone smoking a cigarette at 1 mile away, but of course that was military grade.
