Raritan Bay 10-28-14
Haven’t been fishing much, just once in the last 5 months (work gets in the way) so I’m at work and take a break around 4:30 and I got the itch (I should be working till 8:00 pm) decide to cut out early and enjoy the great weather, I know I’ll be hitting the bay at low tide not very favorable but you get out when you can. I call my wife to see if she would like to join me and if she could purchase some clams and bunker.
I get to the bay around 6:00, water was like a lake, beach was empty, and it was dead low tide. Enjoying the weather and conversation nothing was doing, very slow no taps or hits, around 7:30 my wife asks how long are we staying I reply with we’ll be leaving within the hour, nothing is going on. I’m about ready to cast one of my poles (7:40) when I see my far pole bend in half, tell the wife hold this, I start running to the pole the next thing I know the hole pole is in the water I go chasing into the water ( no waders) thinking I’m going to lose this, knee deep in water I grab the pole she’s still on, she’s putting up a great fight a few jumps you could tell she’s was big there was no muscling her in, I continue to go with her down the beach,( glad it was empty) after a long fight I finally land her 42” first keeper of 2014 and a PB
