Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Brothers, Jeff and John Meuschke, from Kansas City chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  Winds were out of the north, northeast at 17 mph, seas running 4-5 ft., temperatures in the mid 70’s.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water off the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale.  Due to our extreme drop off, if you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you would be in 500 ft. of water.

We started out trolling with two #8 plainers both with a sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip.  For surface baits we had two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips.  As we trolled the reefs, Jeff and John took turns bringing in three Bonitos and four undersized Kingfish.

From there I ventured off a little further off shore in search of some weeds or debris floating.  In 600 ft. of water, a little weed line was forming off of Fort Lauderdale.  As I trolled on it, the weed line expanded and got better.  I trolled past a tree branch, and the green hornets came flying out – we had four Mahi Mahi’s hooked up at one time.  Each one of the four was a ½ inch short of allowed length and was therefore released.  I made another pass by the branch, and another three Mahi Mahi’s were hooked up, but all three were shorts.  I kept trolling the weed line, and we wound up catching three Mahi Mahi keepers.  We finally had enough food for a couple of meals.

From there the two brothers discussed business as they relaxed in the a/c salon for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
