I've got a question that hopefully can be answered without you all having to give up spots. Basically, what I want to know is what are the rules concerning fishing on the beach now that summer is upon us?
Are there certain areas that are set aside for fishing during the day? I know the Hook and IBSP have them, but how about municipal areas? Not looking for specific spots, just a town name would be nice.
Once the lifeguards are off duty, you can fish anywhere, right?
I think I'm finding that this is my biggest obstacle right now. I'm itching to get out there (when it's a little cooler!), but I really have no idea where to go this time of year. I've been hitting the Raritan spots, but that's getting boring and I wouldn't mind looking out at open ocean, either. IBSP is a little too far.
I do appreciate anything you guys can do to help me out, as always!

Seaside you can but be off around 9:00 am. Once the lifeguards come out. They will tell you to leave.

That I am aware of, the jetty areas of most beaches are good to go spots because the bathers are not near them. The lifeguards concerns are that the bathers will be a hook embedded in them. From what I recall when I did do the surf, if you are fishing near the jetty, they don't bother you.

I would stay like 20+ feet away from them. They shouldnt be near the rocks, and if your there, and they come over anyway, and thats the only place to fish.. keep fishing. TT^

i'm having a hard time imagining myself walking past the beach pass checkers with fishing gear...
do you have to pay to get on if you're fishing?

Hi Ash,
Tis the season for beach badges and paying through the nose to fish on any beach.
Ortley Beach is pretty much closed to fishing during the time the lifeguards are there.
I will have to check on Seaside Park for fishing. I know you are going to have to pay for their beach though.
Your best bet is still the Hook or the IBSP. I know it gets crowded this time of year but at least with the park you have 10 miles of beach to choose from. With some areas with easy walk on access.
Other than that it is pretty much fishing before and after the lifeguards hit the beach.

Paul, you don't have to throw them back. There are no size regs on the out of towner''s yet. They may be a bit tuff to fillet though, if they are still squirming around. ;D

up to high tide mark you are allowed to stay on any beach without charge. no one is allowed to remove you, or ask you to leave from any beach in NJ as long as you stay within the high tide line. just make sure when you leave, you stay within the high tide line till you find a way off the beach that does not cross a private or pay beach, or far enough away that a lifeguard wont bother to chase you t^

i was always under the impression that as long as you were fishing you didnt have to pay to get on any beach. i have walked on many beaches, right passed the swimmers to an opening on the beach.always tried to keep a good distance, being respectful, never had a problem. the last time i went to belmar to fish it was during the day swimmers everywhere, i had a honda generator with me. no-one was bothered at all. it was a small quiet one but still a gas generator, lol.too much work never do that again. anyway i think if you are concideraite to the others on the beach you wont have any problems,and like others said stay near the rocks or other structures.

I know years ago on LBI it was like that. If you were strickly fishing and not swimming or laying on the beach you didn't need a beach badge.
Don't know if it is the same now or not.

i love bennys.... great entertainment when fishing is slow. you dont have to foul hook em either, attach a gold chain and a tube of hair gel to a 3/0 circle hook, gets em in the corner of the lip everytime..lolol. i like watching them try to launch their boats. but i'm a polock,so what can i say.
