Title: Misty Morn Father's Day Magic Hour Fluking
Post by: Skolmann on June 15, 2008, 10:38:43 PM
My son learn a valuable lesson today.....karma.

Around noonish he said, "Dad I'm going to ask mom if we can go fishing today-my treat".

He (we) got the go ahead. I was little tried from fishing all day yesterday. We didn't load the car until 3. Usually we out the door by 2 for a magic hour trip so we can fish for 2 hours off the stern of the boat.

Got the boat about 3:40, stowed our gear & Jason bucktailed off the stern. Saw what appeared to be a school of bluefish (maybe bass  ???) busting bait up and down the creek. Jason bucked up a 17 7/8" throw back fluke.

Left the slip at 5 and was fishing the Triangle area a short ride later. Action around the boat immediately. Some keeper fluke, allot of shorts & sea robins. We both started off dragging bait. I took our traditional $1 for first fluke. We both soon switched to bucktailing. Jason's rig was a 1.5 ounce white Spro that he tipped with a strip & a .25 ounce white Spro as a teaser (untipped). My rig at first was a 2 ounce white Spro off a dropper with a 1/0 hook baited with 2 spearing. I fished the pulpit and Jason moved to a stern corner. Not too long later, Jason walked to the bow to plop a nice 21" fluke in our cooler. 5 minutes later he comes back with a 24" er (this hit his teaser). Meanwhile, I'm catching all the sea robins and short fluke in the area. Another 10 minutes & he here he comes again with another fluke over 20"s. I tie on a similar rig (same color & weight) but add a 4" GULP swimming minnow and for a teaser I use a gummy shad. First drift using this rig and bang I put a 20" er on ice. After that the wind (which at this point had been light) kicked up out of the east bringing with it a heavy fog bank. Wind really started blowing out of east at 25 Kts. Bay get kicked up and the boat was rolling. Drift became to fast for anymore bucktailing so it was back to dragging bait. Going under the boat you needed 8 ounces. I did manage to box another keeper at just over 18"s.

28 fares put 20-22 keepers in the boat. Jason's karma of offering to pay for tonight's trip paid off with him being both high hook (3) and winning the pool.

Should have a picture or 2 in a few days.
