Title: FLUKE-A-Thon... Results & Reports HERE.. Everyone, Good or Bad
Post by: Luna Sea 5 on July 12, 2008, 06:26:05 PM
I have a great Saturday, but even a better Friday evening..  ;)

Team LS3 had a pretty good day.  The team of Luna Sea, Uncle Luna, Capt. Anthony, Skolman and his son Jason.

Early start had a real nice drift over the Reach Channel 9 and 10.  When the drift stopped dead, we headed for the Sandy Hook Channels to pick up a better drift.  As the day went on, the drift became unfishable.

Our total tally for today was 11 Keepers.
1 @24 1/2"
2 @24"
2 @22"
4 @20"
2 @18"

Our score for today was a total of 16.60 lbs.
1. 5.00 lbs
2. 3.96 lbs
3. 3.88 lbs
4. 3.76 lbs
What hurt us was a 24" fish that went 3.96, that I thought would have went over the 5 lbs mark.

I have the form to fax, if there is a place to fax it to.

Great day, ton, and tons of laughs, like always.

If you want, use my format.  Report, weight, and pictures.  No weights will be accepted unless posted here first, using a similar format with pictures.

Thanks again for a great, fun day.

The spot on the Knoll turned on again once the tide slowed. The guy who I fished with on Sunday took a #9+ and a #5.5 as well as a few more #3+ keepers there.

Had a great time again on the Luna Sea, nice to meet Capt. Anthony again and Doc and his son Jason. Fishing was fast and furious in the early
morning, nice steady drift and most of the bigger fish were caught before 10 am. after that the wind and tided picked up and the bite turned off to a slow pick. 11 nice keepers though for the day not shabby. Looking forward to Sunday's meal of fresh Fluke
Thanks again nephew for a nice day on the water with some new friends from our website.
PS Nick I think you were right Rod is Bad Luck
Just kiddin Rod. rofla rofla

Team Irish Ayes just returned from the marina's pig roast. We didn't weigh in for the marina tourney as the big fish was 9#, 7.5# and 7#. Our largest was 3.6.

Our four weigh in fish were:
1.) 2.14
2.) 2.10
3.) 3.6
4.) 3.4

Weighed in at R&M Tackle (formerly Captain Bill's) Nice people if anyone is in the Belmar/Shark River area and needs supplies or bait.

We did manage five keepers and 7 keeper sea bass. Fished the morning at Shrewsbury Rocks. We fishing beside Team Baccala for a while. Nice seeing you guys on the water.

Fishing was slow until about 10am. Then he bite turned on for about an hour and died again with the increasing wind. Wind from the south in the afternoon made for a bumpy ride back to the barn.

Hopefully, pics of the weigh in will follow. I'm on a laptop that is v-e-r-y  s-l-o-w.

You got that right Tom. Once the tide started coming in and the wind picked up from the south the bite was pretty much over and done with.

Nice catch you guys put together.

Since I have the pics, I guess I'll post the report for Team Reel Time.

The day started out promising.  Capt. Mike had a cooler full of bait including some peanut bunker that he had netted the night previous.  We left the inlet by 5:30am and headed out to the reefs.  And although I hear that the northern part of the state had a lot of wind, we couldn't find any.  No drift at all. :P  At one point I was fishing a 3/4 oz. bucktail in 60' of water and holding bottom with no problem.

Capt. Mike put us on all the right spots and we even tried some power drifting, but despite his (and our) best efforts, it was not to be for Team Reel Time today.

Bottom line for today was a few shorts, some sea robins, a couple of doggies, a triggerfish, and a ton of laughs! ;)

Actually, we didn't catch the triggerfish.  It was more like it caught us.  During one stop this little guy started hanging around the boat.  It stayed just near the stern area where we were all fishing.  And despite Capt. John's efforts to net it and Hotrod's, Hareball's, and my attempt to get it to bite something, it just continued swimming around with us.  Rod liked it so much he named it Bobo! ;D

So our tournament report is no fish, But a really fun time was had by all! t^

Thanks guys! TT^

-Bob

fish were in tight little pockets. nothing real big for us. slow pick but we managed to grab 14 keepers.

south wind completely ended our bite.

14 keepers

4 biggest weighed 14.20lbs

had a great time with good company

Thanks for putting the tourney together

Nice report Bob and Captain Jerry. I wish we could have sent some wind down your way Bob. We had way too much of it up north. As soon as the wind started, the fluke got lockjaw.

Hopefully, we can get another tourney together in the near future.  t^

The Fluka Brasi crew Of Dave, Ross, My bro Rob, and myself had a great time today. Spent the day in the Reach, mostly from the 10 (where we had the pleasure of seeing Nick and the LS3 crew) to the 14. Steady pick thru the morning, and when the drift died, decided to stay put and switch to jigging..continuing to pick away. Ended up with 8 keepers for the boat.. with no help from me at all.. My juju was bad all day, after my lucky "Jersey Fresh"  hat got sucked out of the boat on our first move.. and I just couldn't get it going today..Good thing the Jersey Boys bailed us out. Our potential anchor fish, was a nice lookin 5-6 lber.,  came un-buttoned on Rob just as Rossie was sliding the net under!  rgmn
As for our weigh-in, I will leave this up to the discretion on the judges.. Lack of advance recon left me unable to find digital to weigh on..I first weighed in on at the Tackle Box in Hazlet on their beam scale. As I could not get a pic that showed the #'s on that scale, I went into Keyport and tried Crabbys..They had a dial scale that  could be read, but neither scale had increments less than a half pound.. Also, a few of my scale pics taken on my new little camera have one of my sausage fingers  in the frame. So I will gladly accept any ruling on our weight or entry.

Our top 4 fish:

1. 19 1/4"  3.0 lbs
2. 19 1/2"  3.5 lbs
3. 19 3/4"  3.5 lbs
4. 20 1/2"  4.0 lbs

Total Weight: 14lbs.
This is the first tourney I've fished in about 20 years and we had a blast!. Congrats to all, and thanks NJSWF for a great time !

Thanks Tom but no 7 for me today... I had a 6+ yesterday but couldn't find that one fish that would have put us on top... I was on fire this morning. Seemed like I had a fish on couple of minutes with 5 out of 11 keepers... maybe 4, i dun remember.

Great swing today and congrats to the crew on TNT and Bacalla (spro in da lip)...

I had an AWESOME time today hangin with the LS3 crew. It was good to kick back and fish instead of working... Nick was killer on the helm today... Uncle Luna was a stalker as one of the big fish came up with out anyone onboard knowing. Almost lost it. Fish spit the hook in the net.... HAHAHA.. Lucky us...Jason was our net man today and from a Captain's view, looks like we have a natural born decky. Skol wasn't slackin either landing the biggest fish, if I'm not mistaken... Last but not least.. LS3 is a sweeeet ride!

Anyone pick up a black bag near the reach.... Hahaha.. Sorry  5hrug

Great job everybody TT^

Like Bob said we had absolutely no wind at all. A bottle cap could have floated on top of the water and for our area thats pretty much unheard of. It did give us a good clear look at some massive bunker pods. It was very cool to sit back and watch thier behavior but the lack of fluke biting it was not long before snaggers were flying through the air and the boat had some blood in it. chrz

We had a full cooler of bait but they way the fish were biting today I think with the addition of the bunker we had more bait heading in then what we had going out. nosmly

Bunker are frozen and will be ready for the next shark trip TT^

Great job guys, nice reports, nice job catching, wish we could have reported the same.
One of the toughest days on the water for us ever, at one point it about an hour to drift 300 feet, the only thing that pushed us was the wakes from passing boats. Most of the guys in our area were fishing the sunshine tournament, had to be about 200+ boats out there with us crying on the radio of the same conditions. The bay guys seem to have a little more action, the bay also seem to have had a better drift. Well congrads to the winners, glad we all did this event was still a great time with lots of laughs and maybe even a few confessions or 2.

Irish Ayes catch weigh in pics. I hope they can be seen. Sorry for the poor alignment of the pics but the B&T scale is hard to read in the camera. I tried to get the fish and scale in the pic but was more concerned with the scale than the fish.

Sorry about the peeps in the back ground too.  ;D

Thank You for having us in your tournament, had a great time. Nice to see guy from the site on the water.

No wind , little wind, too to much wind from the south east made for the slow day.

To set the record straight(as much as I hate too).

The nice Ride is my Buddy Dave's

Uncle Paulie had the Big One
Dave had the 2 Middle Fish

Irish Ayes catch weigh in pics. I hope they can be seen. Sorry for the poor alignment of the pics but the B&T scale is hard to read in the camera. I tried to get the fish and scale in the pic but was more concerned with the scale than the fish.

Sorry about the peeps in the back ground too.  ;D

Joe you sure you were taking pictures of the scale >:D rofla hhppy. It was a tough day for the team of Pops Soul, Only boated shorts and was left with the boat to clean.  :P

Looks like you & the boys had a good day of fish-in. Can I ask, what bait was the best and did you use any artificial baits.  Thanks.

Welcome aboard Gary Hill,

I have to ask, did you live in Toms River a while back, and move up to Syracuse, NY?

If not thats OK, in any event nice to have you aboard, be careful we are addicting as you will find out once you post more.

Again, Welcome Aboard,

Happy Catching

Paul
