NJ Saltwater Fishing Reports / Tuesday 4/4/23 striper report
« Last post by kpcoe on April 04, 2023, 07:54:07 PM »
Out with buddies Cigar Joe, 5 Gallon Rich, and the Yeti?. Fish were pretty much in same spot as last week, close to home?.not a crazy bite like last week but put together a few nice spurts.  Did head out to the bay on Jersey side?. Quite a few boats over the line?? and from there lack of movement would guess they were on some fish but were off limits for me?. Thinking maybe the full moon had something to do with action?..bay should light up shortly, water temps still a cool 48-49 degrees? chrz

Helping Each Other Out / Black drum during Spawn info needed
« Last post by Captain Andy on March 31, 2023, 04:44:28 PM »
I?m a part time Charter Capt on the Great Lakes. My cousin and I are considering a go at the black drum off Cape May during the spawn in May. I have significant striper experience in the Hudson and off Montauk. My 1st question- Can we find a place to launch or do we have to go through a Marina and get a slip? Thanks

Good for you.  Be safe on your travels.  Lil and I bought a 26' Travel Trailer as well.  But due to certain health issues we have not used it too much.

So I'm allocated to bank and pier fishing for now.

Good Luck in your travels.

Hey Paul,

Good to hear you are getting out.

I  haven't fished salt since Blackfish Dec of 2019.

Did get out a few times for Trout during Covid.

Been doing a lot of RVing mostly out west, so no salt.

Heading out west again soon but with a two week stay in Gulf Shores AL and hope to hit the surf and pier a few times.

Hi Rick.  It felt good to be on the good side of a rod again.  Lil and I will be watching our grandson tomorrow so it is time to get him out fishing again.  We will be at the small park in South Toms River where they are still catching White Perch and small stripers.

NJ Fishing Locations Reviews / Early Season Fishing Observations
« Last post by ped579 on March 20, 2023, 06:26:55 PM »
As we make our way through March the weather pretty much has been cooperating and letting anglers out and catching early.  The Toms River has been producing small schoolie Stripers all along its shore line.  Along with the Stripers the White Perch have been giving anglers a fill in when the stripers have lock jaw.  If you can find moving water of the brackish kine there you will find the White Perch.

Small hooks or jigs are the ticket to landing these little tid bits.  Blood worms seem to be the bait of choice but watch out you might land a small Striper or two.  The prized fish are all over the Toms River with a large amount starting to move out into the bay.  If you have your boat in the water already try along the Mathis or Tunny bridges as I have heard they are congregating along the pillars.  All the usual baits are fair game right now but many are being caught with 4" to 6" twitch baits or poppers.

Not much talk about the blues yet but I would keep a few bucktail jigs handy with white curly tails handy.  They won't be far behind.  I know it is early usual May is the Spring run for the yellow eyed monsters.  But the waters are warming up pretty quickly now as the ocean temps are already in the low 40's.

I am looking for a good year this year as I am back and although the beach is out for me right now I will be making my way around the bay and reporting on any activity this ole guy can hear and pass it onto all of you.

I will let you know what happens on Wednesday when I will have my grandson out again.

Oh yeah all the usual Bait & Tackle Shops are all geared up for the season so make your way over to your favorite shop and help keep them in business.  There are many reasons NOT to go to big named stores.  I look at it this way the small mom and pop shops if frequented often by you will remember you and begin to give you that good fishing report you usually could never have received from that big store.

Good Luck to everyone this season.  See you around the edges...

NJ Saltwater Fishing Reports / Re: Rod are we back?
« Last post by ped579 on March 20, 2023, 04:30:31 PM »
Hi Rod.  We have been back a few times and it is one of our favorite places on earth.  Especially for fishing.  But we have not been back in a couple of years.  But that is okay.

I have a new focus and that is to teach my 6 year old grandson fishing tactics.  He is doing pretty good in the casting category but I showed him how blood worms can attach it freaked him out.  LOL.  But that was Saturday and he keeps asking when we are going out again. It looks like that might be Wednesday.  This time I will bring more of my stuff and see if we can latch onto a Striper or two.

Looking forward to post more starting this year with more shore fishing reports, tactics and fishing lure choices.
