Boater's body found in Barnegat Bay
« on: March 29, 2009, 09:38:46 AM »
Another unfortunate event. Guys, make sure you have your kill switch connected and if you are alone definately wear a PFD at all times.

Very sad...It has been a long winter season and everyone has cabin fever bad, but it  sad situations like this that we have to take the time to go ever the simple things.  Like Joe said something like attaching the kill switch might have been all that was needed.

Maybe before you venture out, make a check list and go over it with your family to make sure everything is in order and done before you head out onto the water especially alone.

Our prayers go out to the family and friends.

thoughts and prayers for this man and his family,I don't saltwater fish on my boat alone, but years ago use to fresh water bass fish the rivers and resevoirs with a 12 ft aluminum boat with a 5hp outboard and a electric trolling motor and would drift the river current casting lures and adjusting position with the trolling motor, once I got hung up in overhead branches and almost tipped the boat and went in,ever since then always wore a life jacket when by myself.

A little more info.
The body of a missing boater was found on Saturday in Barnegat Bay.

A helicopter crew from the Coast Guard Air Station in Atlantic City found 52-year-old Ken Madsen early Saturday night, in waters near Oyster Creek off Barnegat.

A boat crew from the Coast Guard Station in Barnegat Light pulled him from the water, but authorities say Madsen was unresponsive.

Madsen, whose home town was not immediately available, had been reported missing by State Police at about 4:05 p.m. They had stopped his boat earlier in the day for an undisclosed reason, and it was later found aground with the engine running, north of the Barnegat Inlet buoy near Waretown.

It was not immediately known what type of boat Madsen had been using or how he ended up in the water.

So SAD,  nosmly  :'( :'( :'(

It is unfortunate that we will never know what happened.
We need to learn from every-one's mistakes
The "Kill Switch" is good but quite a pain if you have to fish.
I saw an ad for a remote kill switch on a fishing show on TV. If you fall over you can hit the switch in your pocket,If you are not knocked out.
I feel for the family and wish them well.

Although a kill switch can be an important thing in some instances, judging from this report it probably wouldn't have helped him much IMO.  What would have helped him would be if he were wearing his PFD.

Here he is, on the cover of the Noreast magazine this month, before the accident happened.
