Trailer
« on: March 04, 2009, 03:39:36 PM »
Hey guys. This weekend I'm doing a sea-trial on the boat I'm buying a 2004 Sea Hunt C.C. Triton.
I'm also buying a new trailer for this boat from the marina thats selling the boat. The reason why I'm buying a new trailer is because I'm putting it in the payment. The less money I have to put out the better. Or I would buy a used one. So my question is, the boat weighs 2000 lbs.
The yamaha 150 outboard weighs 400 lbs. correct me if I'm wrong, and I will probably have other weight added on in gear. Load Rite is the trailer and they make one rated for 2700 lbs. that one he says is $1850.00.
The next one up is rated for 3100 lbs. that one is $2150.00. Do you think I can get away with the 2700 lb. one and save $300.00. Even if boat, motor, and gear added up to 2650 lbs. shouldn't I still be safe? There has to be a little room for error if I were to go over 2700 lbs. by 25 or 50 lbs. right? Thanks for your help. 5hrug

dont forget gas at 6lb/gal
ice weighs 10lb per 10lb bag
fresh water 8lb/gal
drinks also heavy

you'll never be sorry you went for the heavier trailer

you might be sorry you went for the lighter one....

trailer I tow with is 5600lbs rated my boat is 20.5ft if that helps. My theory is rather be over then under!! I'm looking at a 26ft boat and going with at least a 10000lb trailer!

Think about the extra gear you will have on the vessel. Also keep in mind, if someday you trade up the heavier trailer will be ok for that vessel too. Good Luck with it.

Go for the heavier trailer! $300.00 is worth it and you will be safer.
Good luck with the new boat!  slt

Phil, spend the extra $300, the additional weight rating will give you peace of mind, and be better for you in the long run. $300 can't make the payments much higher at all. Good Luck with your purchase.  <'((((><

Definitely purchase the higher rated trailer.
Its a safety issue for you and the vehicles around and behind you. Don't forget the spare tire too. Also Get overrated tie down straps. Home depot sells a 3 pack of 5000lb yellow ratchet straps used on semi trailers for under 30 bucks. Never trailer without tie downs. You will have a clear conscious,
