Hi All,
I bought a new 200 HP Yamaha HPDI engine in September 2005. I have over 250 hrs. on it already. I love the engine.
I have a question regarding ethanol. Despite using Startron and Ring Free and religiously servicing the engine, I have two (2) nagging issues since the introduction of the gas additive ethanol.
1. The filter cases within the engine have swelled and had to be changed. This is a known problem and have been re-engineered by Yamaha. Question - Has anyone else had this problem and did you have to pay for the new parts or did you somehow get Yamaha to replace them for free?
2. Due to a failure with the filters, the oil/air/fuel mixture has caused the O2 sensor to have to be replaced. I knew there was a problem because at 800-1,000 rpms, the engine ran rough. Anyone else experience this problem?
I would be interested in hearing anything else about Yamaha HPDI engines that you have come across.
Have fun,
Capt. Ed
