I played hooky from work yesterday and headed out reasonably early with mboy Mike W. aboard. We headed to a new (to me) spot I had been eyeing on the chart for a few days with some promising looking bottom contour. Arrived there to find little current, no wind and flatter than advertised bottom. Decided to save it for another day…
Moved to another new to me spot further east where the drop off and edges were as advertised. That, combined with a slight breeze and incoming tide, gave us a slow pick where we manged to put a nice chunky flattie in the box along with some smaller fish released. Hits were coming on the teaser tipped with Gulp; but surely it was the action of bucky enticing the strikes.
Thought about heading further east, but we both had time constraints, so we motored to the Reach where we found more of the same iffy drifty with a few boats not doing much of anything. Everyone was favoring the green side, so wat da hay we moved over to the Red side where lack of drift put us in powerdrift mode. This was the ticket as I bumped YSA in and out of gear we began picking some more fish. As the high slacked we put another in the box. Slow fishing for sure...
Worked our way up the reach, ending up by Great Beds as the outgoing started. Made a few promising drifts in the Triangle area, no dice. Called it a day around 12. Lots of stuff to do today; maybe back at it again tomorrow.
Catch em up!!
