Striped Bass
« on: March 14, 2009, 09:06:38 PM »
I'm from up north and looking to make a trip down the shore for some striped bass or winter flounder fishing. I don't know the areas that well and I don't have a boat. I was thinking of Seaside Park, (the piers on Barneget Bay) or an area in Point Pleasant?  Would it be too early for the weekend of 3/21 or 22nd for these fish? Need to know befor I take an hour and a half ride.
Every little bit helps,  Thanks. 5hrug

i wouldn't waste my time with the stripers yet.  Keep checking here on this site for reports.  As the reports get better, then make the trip.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

Stripers are in short supply right now and winter flounder season does not start until March 23.

When you do make the trip you can hit Belmar (Shark River) Municipal Marina south part of the docking area where the launch ramp is or the tennis courts for winter flounder.

Good luck.

I managed to get 2 keepers off of the sedges of Barnegat Bay on 3/13 during the late shift, 10pm to 2:30am. Fish were 32" and 37"... Bass are around, but not a waste of time in my eyes.....

Well, looks like I'm gonna head down Friday morning to Mantaloking bridge and try my luck on winter flounder and hopefully strippers. I should get there around 5:30 - 6am.
I think I'll stop at a loacl bait shop and try some clam, eel and sandworms.
I picked up a Shimano 4500 bait reel and can't wait to set up.
I'm going to try some different methods and we'll see what works, otherwise I'm my way back up, I'll stop in Belmar and try the Shark River.

This site has been a great help.
Thanks and maybe I'll see you around slt
