Rod and Reel Suggesetions for Manasquan Inlet Wall

Hello all, I'm new to the forum and am planning on doing a fair amount of fishing in the inlet. I'm looking for a good spinning reel, rod, and line setup. Any input would be appreciated.

What price range are you looking to stay in.

A decent setup would be an 8' Tica with Penn 460 Slammer it will run you about $230 or so.  I would put 30+ lbs braid to help with the snags out there.  Plus if you use bank sinkers it should help as well.

I'd like to spend around $200 but the $30 more would kill me if its worth it. As for as the rod goes, is Tica the brand, and is it light-medium, medium? And 30lb sounds a bit heavy isn't it.

Yes Tica is a brand name it is one of the moderate priced rods on the market.  I have 3 of their rods and love them, it will handle just about anything you will mussel over the wall or rocks.  30# braid is not heavy at all for salt water.  I use 40# weight line for the surf especially on my conventional outfits.

Braid is a very strong material but the diameter is a lot thinner than mono the 30# test braid has the diameter of approx. 8 to 10# mono.

The rod is a medium/heavy rod and will handle up to 3oz lures.  Very light and easy to cast.  It is my go to plugging rod.  I am strickley surf and in season I will be out pounding the sand for over 8 hours sometimes and have yet to get arm weary with this set up.

Hello drew806, i fish the wall farily regularly in the summer as well.


Try either a Star aeriel (7'6") shimano air wave(7'-8') or a barefoot spinning rod, if you can find one.  The barefoot would be ideal, one of the best rods out there and it will probably not cost you more than 60 bucks.  There is alimited selection here...  http://www.tackledirect.com/barefoot-rods.html

In terms of reels, a shimano Stradic or Penn slammer is a good choice.

Think im gonna go with the Tsunami Airwave TSAWSS-702M rod and Shimano 3500 Baitrunner reel. Sound good?

Well I went to Ramsey Outdoors today and made my purchases. Wound up getting Tsunami Trophy TSTSS-802MH with the Shimano 3500 Baitrunner and spooled it with 30lb Sufix braid. Total cost was $220. Now the anxiety of getting down to use it asap. Thanks for all the info guys.

Good luck with your new purchase.  Just a warning with any newly spooled reel you might wind up with wind knots till the reel depletes the right amount of line it likes.  By this I mean a lot of times when new line is put onto a reel it is usually filled with to much line and when you cast a lot there is some line twist and a wind knot occurs like a small birds nest off the reel.

Simply cut the line don't even try to get the knot out and start from there. re rig and you should be good to go.

One hint is to get use to manually flipping the bail as this will not put a slight twist in the line causing the lint to form wind knots as well.
