Gulp Mullet Baits
« on: May 28, 2007, 09:32:56 PM »
Just read a article about gulp baits. Several people said that the gulp mullet used on a lead jig head produced on a steady basis on several types of fish. Has anyone used them, how did you rig them and what were your results? Thanks for the help!!

I read your post very informative, read another at friends house don't know the magazine it was in, but raved about all the gulp saltwater products. That article was not very clear on how to rig the products and how to fish them. Just looking for a little more info on what products to buy and how to fish them.

I am hoping to do a lot of surf fishing this summer. I am a novice but I do enjoy it and I would like to be more successful. The gulp baits sound like they are a very productive bait and I would like to know as much about these baits as possible. Like how to rig the types I will be fishing with, what baits catch what types of fish and what baits seem best for NJ surf fishing? Thanks for the help! I have to say everyone on this web site is very helpful and that means a lot to a beginner.

NJ,
You might want to put out some feelers for guys who pound the surf.  I'm sure there are many on this site who would be more than willing to take you under their wing and fish alongside you and give you pointers.  There isn't anything like having an experienced guy showing the ropes you first hand.  I know when I was surf fishing I had an uncle who did just that.  t^
Just a thought.  t^

For starters, it seems like all of these saltwater gulp baits work very well.  What I would do is use a chrome ball or a spro jig and try a swimming mullet, or porgy on it.  Put the took through the top of the head like if you were to thread it through the body, go down half way and stick the hook back out.  This will keep the tail swimming.  Next thing is to cast and retrieve slowly always keeping the bait in motion.  Next, after each cast, move a few steps in either direction to cover the most ground

any like Irish said above, just watch the people around you and if you see production, either ask or try coping what they are doing.  Just take notice of your surounding and watch others.
