Rod and Reel
« on: April 21, 2009, 03:47:54 PM »
Hey guys, I have 2 conventional reels that I just put 30lb. line on and I am looking for 2 rods for these reels. I called Sports Auth. and they have a rod thats 15-30lb. class. The reel can take up to 40lb but I have 30 on there now. The rods are 6ft. Is this cutting it to close or do I need to find a higher lb. rod? They are $25.00 for the rods. Perfect for me. grtn

You should be fine if your in the range of the rod and reel specs.

What is the make / model of the reels so we can give some better advice?

Also, what kind of fishing are you looking to do?

Did they tell you what kind of rods they were?  You want to make sure the rods are rated for the weight you will be throwing as well.

Striper fishing. The reel is a Okuma reel and a Daiwa reel. Both conventional with 30lb. line on there. What do you think 15-30lb. rod good enough. I don't know the brand. I will find out this weekend. but for 25 bucks can you go wrong

Please do not take this the wrong way but... the cheaper rods out on the market are just that, cheap rods. Up you budget to $50 per rod, get some Ugly Stiks, and your set. <'((((><
I've spent most of my life fishing, the rest I've just wasted     <'((((><

I agree, Ugly Stiks are hard to beat for a low priced rod. Look around for sales or offers of free stuff with purchase.

Whatever you go with, a rod rated for 15 to 30lb is good for stripers but I'd recomend a 7 footer...6'6" minimum.

Good luck...

So you'll be fishing from a boat I take it?

If from shore, you're going to need something longer than 7' chrz
